As one of the premier state universities in the Philippines, the University of the Philippines (UP) finally announced that UP College Admission Test (UPCAT) is suspended for the academic year 2022-2023.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In their official statement shared this week, the university expressed their concern and reluctance to administer the UPCAT for the upcoming school year due to pandemic.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“The immense logistical challenge of administering\u00a0 <\/span>UPCAT in the UP campuses and 95 testing centers throughout the archipelago, while the trajectory of the pandemic remains uncertain, prompted the University Councils (UCs) across the System to approve the Office of Admission\u2019s motion to once again suspend the UP College Admissions Test UPCAT for AY 2022- 2023,” said Maria Cynthia Rose Banzon Bautista, the Vice -President for Academic Affairs.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the Memorandum No. OVPAA 2021-158, the model used by the UP Office of Admissions for the first-year student intake of AY 2021-2022 will be used this coming AY 2022-2023 instead. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“In the light of this decision, the Admissions Scoring Model which the Office of Admissions\u2019 data scientist developed that working group of experts designated by their respective CUs refined and that the University Councils overwhelmingly approved in 2020, will continue to be used with some fine-tuning in the preprocessing and transmutation of grades that enter the model,” Bautista added.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The University Councils across the UP System voted overwhelmingly in favor of the motion. According to the UP Faculty Manual, the University Councils are the highest policy-making body of each UP constituent university (CU) composed of the Chancellor, professors, associate professors, and assistant professors of each CU.<\/p>\n
