Now, you don\u2019t have to go to Japan to see Sakura Park.<\/span><\/p>\n

In celebration of the 40th<\/sup> anniversary of sisterhood ties between Japan Prefecture and Benguet province, officials of Atok, Benguet and officials from Kochi prefecture and Japanese embassy planted over 30 cherry blossoms and other Japanese trees in the said province.<\/span><\/p>\n

These trees were planted at a mountaintop park situated at 2,000 meters above sea level. According to a CNN Philippines report, cherry blossoms were propagated in November 2015 but only few survived as they were planted at a wrong time of the year, said Japanese botanist Kiyuharu Yamamoto.<\/span><\/p>\n

35 seedlings were given by the Kochi Prefecture to Benguet, with 34 of them planted in Paoay and one in Mankayan, Benguet. The place in Paoay was suggested by japan due to its cold climate and elevation. A tree planting activity was done on Monday joined by Benguet Gov. Nestor Fongwan.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Sakura trees may blossom in a few years, which can boost tourism for the said province. Authorities are now planning to plant cherry blossoms in public parks and other visible places in Benguet and Mountain Province.<\/span><\/p>\n
