Photo grabbed from ue.edu.ph<\/em><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Known for his writings on national hero Dr. Jose Rizal, historian and writer Ambeth Ocampo has been given the Academic Prize by the prestigious award-giving body Fukuoka Prize in Japan.<\/span><\/p>\n This Academic Prize is accordingly given to those who \u201chave made outstanding achievements in the field of Asian studies, contributing to the world\u2019s understanding of Asia.\u201d This award is given by the Fukuoka Prize, an award-giving body which recognizes individuals from East, South, and Southeast Asia who have \u201coutstanding contributions to the preservation and creation of Asian Culture through their work.<\/span><\/p>\n According to Fukuoka Prize\u2019s citation to Dr. Ocampo, he is said to have made great contribution to \u201cacademic, social, and cultural progress in the Philippines through his university teaching and his writings for newspapers and magazines.\u201d Fukuoka Prize also recognizes Dr. Ocampo\u2019s service in historic and cultural administration.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cFor his achievement in reclaiming history as the property of ordinary citizens, for his contribution to promote an open-minded nationalism and global sensibility in the Philippines, and for his great service to international cultural exchange, Dr. Ambeth R. Ocampo is a truly worthy recipient of the Academic Prize of the Fukuoka Prize,\u201d <\/em>Fukuoka Prize states.<\/span><\/p>\n
