The Philippines is home to the most talented people in the world. As a first for the Philippines, veteran actress Jaclyn Jose won the Best Actress award at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival for Ma\u2019 Rosa, directed by award-winning director Brillante Mendoza. Jose played the titular character, who is an impoverished mother selling drugs.<\/span><\/p>\n

For the independent film Anino sa Likod ng Buwan<\/em>, Filipina actress LJ Reyes won the best actress award at the 13th<\/sup> Pacific Meridian International Film Festival in Russia. The movie, directed by Jun Lana, was about the darker periods of Philippine history.<\/span><\/p>\n

Most sought-after and one of the most popular actors in his generation John Lloyd Cruz has recently been awarded the Star Asia Award given at the 15th<\/sup> New York Asian Film Festival. Cruz is the first Southeast Asian to receive the said award.<\/span><\/p>\n

The film, which bagged more awards also won in the Best Picture-Drama category.<\/span><\/p>\n

The said film also won the Best Feature Film. Mana is a film shot in Negros, which tells the story of family and traditions.<\/span><\/p>\n

18-year old actress Barbie Forteza who has starred in several teen shows and independent films showcased her acting skills as she won the Best Actress at the 36th<\/sup> Fantasporto International Film Festival at Oporto, Portugal for the film Laut.<\/em> The film tells the story of the ethnic group Sama d\u2019Laut, which makes it an eye-opener for the community\u2019s culture.<\/span><\/p>\n

Award-winning actor Sid Lucero was recently named as Best Actor for his performance at the 19th<\/sup> Los Angeles Comedy Festival Awards for the film Toto<\/em>. The film also won as the Best Foreign Film in the said festival. Lucero also played the titular character Toto, a room service attendant wanting to achieve the American dream.<\/span><\/p>\n

Well-known theater actress and comedienne Eugene Domingo was named Best Actress in the 26th<\/sup> Tokyo International Film Festival held in 2013. Domingo plays a woman who took over a barber shop business set in the 1970s. Domingo is known to have starred in several commercial and independent films in the Philippines.<\/span><\/p>\n

She was recognized for her role as Thelma, a temporary foster parent in the film Foster Child. The said fim which was directed by Brillante Mendoza also won the Best Film award.<\/span><\/p>\n

Known as one of the most famous actresses in PH, Nora Aunor has bagged several acting awards for her portrayal as Flor Contemplacion in the critically-acclaimed film The Flor Contemplacion Story. Aunor won Best Actress Award in the 1995 Cairo International Film Festival. The film was about the story of a Filipina domestic helper hanged in Singapore.
