The Philippine Statistics Authority<\/b> (PSA)<\/strong> and Robinsons Corporation<\/b> tied up for a mall-based registration of Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) or national ID.<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the second phase of PhilSys, the PSA and Robinson Corporation signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on May 17 to accommodate registration on Robinsons mall branches nationwide. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The said partnership was part of Robinsons’ Lingkod Pinoy Center Program to be a one-stop-shop place for all the government transactions. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe, at Robinsons Malls, are truly honored and proud to be forging this partnership with the PSA. We want to assure you that whatever support you need from the malls, we will be there to make sure that this herculean task of registering all Filipinos will be done very successfully,\u201d said Arlene Magtiba<\/b>y, Robinsons Malls senior vice president and general manager.<\/p>\n

Currently, the are only select Robinsons branches that have opened as PhilSys registration centers.<\/p>\n

Magtibay also noted that the partnership between the government and private sectors is the key factor toward having safe and convenient services.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“We are always ready to lend a helping hand to the government agencies that we feel will benefit from having their services in the malls because [as we know] people like going to the malls. They know where it\u2019s located, it\u2019s very accessible, whether by public or private transportation,” she said. “And so, whatever we can do to help them do their jobs better and bring their services closer to the people, that\u2019s what the Lingkod Pinoy is all about,\u201d she said. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, PSA Undersecretary Dennis Mapa<\/b> said that the partnership will help the government expand the registration of more Filipinos to PhilSys.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe appreciate the efforts of Robinsons to partner with us. We want our registration to be a very good experience for our registrants, and malls are a convenient and safe place for it,” he said.<\/p>\n

Back in 2018,\u00a0 <\/span>President Rodrigo Duterte signed the Republic Act 11055<\/b>, or the Philippine Identification System Act<\/b> that aims to establish a single national ID for all Filipinos and resident aliens.<\/p>\n

“This is a big opportunity for our kababayans to have a valid proof of identity that they can use in their daily lives and later, to enroll them in banking services,\u201d Mapa ended.<\/p>\n

The national ID aims to boost efficiency, especially in dealing with government services where people will only need to present it during transactions.<\/p>\n

Registration for PhilSys is free of charge.<\/p>\n
