{"id":59629,"date":"2021-03-18T17:00:36","date_gmt":"2021-03-18T09:00:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/?p=59629"},"modified":"2021-03-18T17:01:15","modified_gmt":"2021-03-18T09:01:15","slug":"uniform-policy-against-single-use-plastics-to-ease-ph-pollution-problem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/2021\/03\/18\/uniform-policy-against-single-use-plastics-to-ease-ph-pollution-problem\/","title":{"rendered":"Uniform Policy Against Single-Use Plastics To Ease PH Pollution Problem"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Climate Change Commission (CCC) Commissioner\u00a0<strong>Rachel Anne Herrera<\/strong>\u00a0urged the need to\u00a0<strong>uniform\u00a0the policies against single-use plastics <\/strong>(SUPs)\u00a0nationwide to address pollution.<\/p>\n<p>In her recent statement,\u00a0Herrera\u00a0emphasized that the problem is a pressing issue that needs to be addressed immediately.\u00a0&#8220;I think it&#8217;s urgent there should be a national policy on this,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>While there are 489 cities, municipalities, and provinces in the country that already have respective SUP-related ordinances, the unified\u00a0policy will flatten the\u00a0complex issue\u00a0from\u00a0one\u00a0city to\u00a0another. Although there are some good policies that may be covering different kinds of SUPs,\u00a0this may not be the case in some areas.<\/p>\n<p>For example, goods and products\u00a0that coming from provinces might have a lenient policy against SUPs. Kennedy-inspired observance that puts the spotlight on consumers&#8217; power, rights, and needs.<\/p>\n<p>Last March 15,\u00a0<strong>Consumers International (CI)<\/strong>, the global consumer group membership organization that announced such a theme, help to raise awareness about plastic pollution. It aims to engage the world&#8217;s consumers in adopting and promoting sustainable practices to help address such problems.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gmail-p1\">\u201cPlastic pollution is one of the most pressing issues facing our planet,&#8221;\u00a0CI Director-General Helena Leurent\u00a0said in her 2021 WCRD message.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gmail-p1\">She pointed out the importance of global action toward\u00a0this pressing issue\u00a0because we\u00a0only have one planet to live on. According to recent studies, sachet packages are among the top SUPs polluting the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gmail-p1\">This\u00a0is a serious problem that has a domino effect. SUPs like sachet packages\u00a0are often seen in polluted\u00a0water. They have microplastics that can be\u00a0eaten by fish and other sea creatures.
