Philippines&#8217; most competitive highly urbanized city in\u00a0the\u00a0<strong>2020 Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The local government of Manila\u00a0was awarded during the 8th Regional Competitiveness Summit held last December 16 where the city received the <strong>Overall Competitiveness Award for Highly Urbanized Cities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-58138\" src=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2020\/12\/Mpio-121720_2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"603\" srcset=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2020\/12\/Mpio-121720_2.jpg 600w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2020\/12\/Mpio-121720_2-90x90.jpg 90w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Apart from the said award, the\u00a0City of Manila also received other acknowledgments\u00a0under the highly urbanized cities bracket:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">First Place in Most Competitive in Government Efficiency Award<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">First Place in Most Competitive in Infrastructure Award<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">Third Place in\u00a0Most Competitive in Economic Dynamism<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">Third Place in Most Competitive in Resiliency<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The\u00a0Overall Competitiveness Award\u00a0was based on the criteria of programs being implemented by the city to improve their respective \u201ceconomic dynamism, government efficiency, infrastructure, and resiliency.\u201d The scores on each pillar\u00a0were\u00a0determined\u00a0by the\u00a0National Competitiveness Council\u00a0(NCC) to select which city will emerge as the overall competitive city in the country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Meanwhile, the economic dynamism award was scored based on the following factors: cost of doing business, cost of living, increase in employment, financial deepening, local economic growth, local economy size, presence of business and professional organizations, productivity, local economic structure, and\u00a0safety compliant in business.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">To decide on the scoring in the\u00a0infrastructure category,\u00a0the factors considered were the availability of basic utilities, education, health,\u00a0accommodation capacity, information technology capacity, financial technology capacity, distance to ports, LGU investment, road network, and transportation vehicles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-58140\" style=\"font-size: 10pt\"><em>Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno spearheaded the opening of the new\u00a0Foreshore Super Health Centre at Lying-In Clinic in\u00a0Tondo, Maynila last December 17 \/ IMAGE Manila Public Information Office&#8217;s Facebook<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The government efficiency recognition, on the other hand, was determined\u00a0according to\u00a0the city&#8217;s compliance to business permits and licensing system standards, efficiency in business registration, health services capacity, compliance to national directives, presence of investment promotion unit, the capacity of school services, performance recognition, the capacity to generate local resource, social protection, and peace and order.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: disaster drill, budget for DRRMP, disaster risk reduction plan, emergency infrastructure, employed population, early warning system, land use plan, sanitary system, utilities, and local risk
