Brillante Mendoza is set to represent the Philippines anew at the 69th<\/sup> Cannes Film Festival, set for May 11 \u2013 22.<\/span><\/p>\n

One of his latest films, Ma\u2019 Rosa<\/em>, was selected as part of the Main Competition last April 14. Ma\u2019 Rosa<\/em> stars Jaclyn Jose, Julio Diaz, Andi Eigenmann, Felix Roco, and Jomari Angeles.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ma\u2019 Rosa <\/em>is about the lives of husband and wife Rosa and Nestor, who use their small community convenience store as a way of peddling Methamphetamines or shabu.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Apart from Mendoza, another Filipino director, Raymund Gutierrez (not the TV host), will be competing in the Short Film Palme d\u2019Or with Imago<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

20 films will be competing in the Main Competition, with Mendoza\u2019s Ma\u2019 Rosa<\/em> being one of only two entries from Asia, the other being Park Chan Wook\u2019s Agassi <\/em>(The Handmaiden).<\/span><\/p>\n

Gutierrez\u2019s Imago<\/em>, meanwhile, will be one of ten entries for the Short Film, the only one from Asia.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ma\u2019 Rosa <\/em>is Mendoza\u2019s fourth foray at Cannes, joining Serbis<\/em> (2008), Kinatay <\/em>(2009), and Taklub<\/em> (2015). Kinatay <\/em>gave him the Cannes Best Director award, while Taklub <\/em>won the Ecumenical Jury Prize-Special Mention.<\/span><\/p>\n
