This Pinoy solution that makes space data accessible is one of the six winners in the <strong>Best Use of Data<\/strong> in the said competition.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Since dengue fever is a viral and an infectious tropical disease which\u00a0resulted\u00a0to\u00a01,107 deaths\u00a0from January 1 to August 31, 2019,\u00a0<strong>Dominic Vincent Ligot, Mark Toledo, Frances Claire Tayco, <\/strong>and<strong> Jansen Dumaliang Lopez <\/strong>from<strong> CirroLytix\u00a0<\/strong>developed a forecasting model of dengue cases\u00a0with the use of climate and digital data,\u00a0as well as\u00a0through pinpointing possible hotspots from satellite data\u2014the <strong>Project AEDES<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-55567\" src=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2020\/04\/Untitled-design-29.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" srcset=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2020\/04\/Untitled-design-29.jpg 800w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2020\/04\/Untitled-design-29-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2020\/04\/Untitled-design-29-768x513.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Using satellite spectral bands like green, red, and near-infrared (NIR),\u00a0\u00a0indices like Fraction of Absorbed Photosynthetically Active Radiation (FAPAR) and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) are calculated\u00a0to identify areas with green vegetation, while Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI) identifies areas with water.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-55569\" src=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2020\/04\/Untitled-design-30.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" srcset=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2020\/04\/Untitled-design-30.jpg 800w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2020\/04\/Untitled-design-30-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2020\/04\/Untitled-design-30-768x513.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In relation to this,\u00a0extracted as coordinates through a free, open-source, and cross-platform desktop geographic information system QGIS, the combination of these indices\u00a0will\u00a0reveal potential areas of stagnant water\u00a0which can possibly be a\u00a0breeding grounds for mosquitoes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Further, the potential dengue hotspots will be shown in a web interface through the information that will be correlated from Sentinel-2 Copernicus and Landsat 8 satellites, climate data from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PAGASA) and trends from Google search engines.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Project AEDES: Overview (Subtitles) Updated\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uzpI775XoY0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In the Philippines, Space Apps is a NASA-led initiative organized in collaboration with De La Salle University, Animo Labs, DOST-PCIEERD, PLDT InnoLab, American Corner Manila, U.S. Embassy, software developer Michael Lance M.
