Dermatology is a fairly popular field of medicine because it is the one that deals with aesthetic and cosmetic procedures, which are fairly in trend these days. However, aside from these,\u00a0there are a lot more aspects linked with dermatology that makes it a very interesting thing to study.<\/p>\n

The interest to venture more on what the field can offer is the reason why Dr. Emmerson Vista is now a board-certified dermatologist with a subspecialty in Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs).<\/p>\n

Talking to Dr. Emmerson Vista, one will realize that dermatology is indeed more than what meets the eye. Coming from a family of doctors, Dr. Vista has always been on track to becoming one, mentioning that his dad is one of his biggest inspirations.<\/span><\/p>\n

He finished medicine at the University of Sto. Tomas and had his residency at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM), then proceeded to Singapore and Germany for further training in his chosen specialties. When asked why he chose to specialize in dermatology, Dr. Vista said that everything about the field excited him.<\/span><\/p>\n

“The skin conditions, how to diagnose them using your clinical eye, using all your knowledge when you read the book. Bonus point that this is also the field for cosmetic medicine,” he said.<\/p>\n

Dr. Vista also has a\u00a0subspecialty in STIs or venereology, which he attributes to his love for dermatology as well.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to him, most STIs will manifest in varied skin conditions, and if one doesn\u2019t have the clinical eye of a dermatologist, chances are it\u2019s going to be misdiagnosed. Since he is catering to sensitive cases, Dr. Vista makes sure to establish rapport with his patients for them to be able to open up about their symptoms.<\/span><\/p>\n

His advice to aspiring doctors is simple yet has been proven to be effective for most: be resilient because medicine is not for the weak-hearted.<\/span><\/p>\n
