The &#8220;A.K.B&#8221;. stands for &#8220;Akihabara,&#8221; which is the place where the group was formed, and &#8220;48&#8221; is the number of members. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Known for their unique concept, AKB48 performs everyday in a theatre in Achihabara and has a sub-group that enables them to have simultaneous performances in other events. Occasionally, they have \u201chandshake events,\u201d which is like a meet and greet for their fans.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Being known as a social phenomenon, they announced the birth of their sister groups in China, SNH48 formed in 2012 and Indonesia, JKT48 formed in 2011.
