On February 8, 2020, the Italian Embassy of the Philippines, in partnership with the Metropolitan Museum of Manila and the Security Bank Corporation, introduced <\/span>Arte Povera: Italian Landscape<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

This art exhibit, which is being shown for the first time in Asia, runs from February 10 to April 30, 2020<\/strong> at the Tall Galleries of the Metropolitan Museum of Manila<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Arte Povera: Italian Landscape is arguably one of the most important art movements to come out of Italy.<\/span><\/p>\n

It started around the 1960s and lasted through the 70s. It attempted to break down the rules of traditional art by redefining its \u201cpurpose\u201d through engaging its audience in highly experimental ways.

This included fascinating studies of <\/span>using unprocessed materials to refer to the emergence of consumer culture. By reflecting on the socio-political life of Italians at the time, Arte Povera inevitably changed the way society viewed art.<\/span><\/p>\n

Art was no longer a bystander of its time; it could be used as a tool to generate dialogue. What was considered \u201cbeautiful\u201d was no longer caged in what was \u201cperfection\u201d but what was happening <\/span>at the present time<\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n

It is inevitable, then, that such a powerful movement shaped what contemporary art is.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The exhibit is curated by <\/span>Danilo Eccher<\/b>, a highly respected Italian art critic and curator who has served as director for several cultural institutions since 1989, including the Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome, among others.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Don’t miss Arte Povera: Italian Landscape art exhibit until April 30 at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila located at BSP Complex, Roxas Blvd., Malate, Manila. The admission fee is priced at\u00a0Php 100<\/strong>\u00a0for adults and students, and Php 80<\/strong> for senior citizens and PWDs.<\/p>\n
