The Department of Tourism (DOT) and iAcademy launch the latest Philippine travel companion, Experience Philippines<\/strong>. The mobile phone application features augmented reality (AR) images of historical sites.<\/p>\n

“With the Experience Philippines app, tourists can relive the past of Intramuros city with just a tap on their mobile phone screens,” says DOT Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat.\u00a0The app is now available on Google Play<\/a> or the App Store<\/a> for free.<\/p>\n

A work in progress, the AR feature currently works only on the DOT logo and certain sites in Intramuros, Manila<\/strong> including\u00a0the Fort Santiago Gate,\u00a0the Manila Cathedral, and San Agustin Church.\u00a0The AR is activated by tapping on the “ARTech” feature and pointing the camera at the tourist site.<\/p>\n

DOT says the app\u00a0serves as a compact version of\u00a0www.philippines.travel<\/a>, the department’s latest tourism website which allows tourists to learn and explore their dream travel destinations online as well as\u00a0plan and book with DOT-accredited tour operators and establishments.<\/p>\n

Users can expect the app to update in the next few months to add other tourist sites\u00a0in Banaue Rice Terraces, Corregidor, Mt. Samat, Puerto Princesa, Pampanga and Mt. Pinatubo.<\/p>\n
