The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA)<\/strong> will deploy 1,000 personnel<\/strong> to aid in the celebration of the Traslacion of the Black Nazarene\u00a02020 <\/strong>happening\u00a0on January 9<\/strong>. These personnel will be deployed to make the affair orderly, peaceful, and safe.<\/p>\n

The contingent for the Traslacion includes personnel from the Metro Public Safety Office (MPSO)<\/strong>, Traffic Discipline Office<\/strong>, Metro Parkways Clearing Group<\/strong>, and the Sidewalk Clearing Operations Group<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The said groups\u00a0are tasked to assist the police, government agencies, and the local government in maintaining order. Further, the MMDA will be working closely with the MPSO in giving first-aid treatment and proving rescue and emergency response when called for.<\/p>\n

In observance of the 2020 Traslacion of the Black Nazarene, tents, plastic barriers, and fences will be set up\u00a0at the Quirino Grandstand as a crowd control measure especially during activities like the “Pahalik”<\/strong> or the kissing of the image of the Black Nazarene, the procession of replicas, and the Holy Mass among others.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are now installing barriers for the traditional \u201cPahalik\u201d as crowd control measure and help bring order during the queuing of devotees,\u201d said\u00a0the\u00a0concurrent Chief of Staff, Office of the General Manager and Focal Person for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, Michael Salalima.<\/p>\n

During the Traslacion, several roads in Manila will be temporarily closed to traffic in order to give way to the procession that will start at the Quirino Grandstand.<\/p>\n

The procession will\u00a0pass by roads such as Quezon Boulevard, Hidalgo St., Palanca St., <\/strong>and Villalobos<\/strong> before ending in Quiapo Church. Road clearing groups and street sweepers will be at the tail of the procession to immediately clear the road from the clutter that will be left behind by the crowd.<\/p>\n

MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim has also ordered the clearing of any obstruction and debris from the route of the procession for the safety of the devotees.<\/p>\n

The Feast of the Black Nazarene is an annual celebration held\u00a0every\u00a0the 9th of January. It\u00a0is considered as one of the biggest religious celebrations in the Philippines that attracts thousands of devotees who take part in various activities\u2014one of which is the\u00a0Traslacion<\/strong> or the procession of the image of the Black Nazarene from the Quirino Grandstand to the Quiapo Church.<\/p>\n
