Good news for those planning to head up north this Christmas! Another extension of the <\/span>Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX)<\/b> segment has been <\/span>opened temporarily<\/b> and <\/span>toll-free<\/b> for the holidays.<\/span><\/p>\n

Motorists can save up to about <\/span>30 minutes<\/b> of travel time via the new 4-kilometer <\/span>Sison-Rosario<\/b> segment<\/b> that runs parallel to the existing highway, further expanding the expressway.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Trucks, buses, and other heavy vehicles, however, cannot pass through.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis will be open temporarily free as a Christmas present of San Miguel. But it\u2019s not yet completely finished,\u201d project leader Mark Dumol said.<\/span><\/p>\n

The segment will close again in <\/span>January 2020<\/b> to complete the 7-kilometer <\/span>Pozurribo-Sison section<\/b>\u2014the final section, which is expected to officially open in the first quarter of the same year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It took almost two years for San Miguel Corporation to finish road work due to right-of-way problems.<\/span><\/p>\n

Travel time from Metro Manila<\/span> to Baguio<\/span> is expected to cut down to three hours from the usual four hours once all segments of the TPLEX is completed.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the future, SMC also has plans to extend the expressway to La Union, particularly in San Fernando and San Juan, with three sections: Rosario to Tubao, Tubao to Naguilian, and Naguilian to San Juan.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There are also further plans to extend all the way to Laoag, Ilocos Norte, although no further details are available yet.<\/span><\/p>\n
