The Philippines<\/strong> was awarded the Best Diving Destination<\/strong> by World Travel Awards (WTA) 2019<\/strong>\u00a0that\u00a0took place at Muscat, Oman\u00a0<\/strong>last November 28, 2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Along with the other eight destinations, the country dominated the list under the same category\u00a0that includes\u00a0Azores Islands, Bora Bora in French Polynesia, Cayman Islands, Fiji, Galapagos Islands, Great Barrier Reef in Australia, Mexico, and the four-time titleholder, the Maldives.<\/p>\n

\u201cDubbed by marine experts and scientists as the heart of marine biodiversity in the world, our country is home to the highest concentration of coral reef life and astounding variety of marine species,”\u00a0Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said.<\/p>\n

“This latest recognition is a validation that the Philippines is truly a premier dive destination,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

The WTA hosted its gala event for Asia and Oceania in Vietnam last October. Additionally, it is also the first time that the Philippines bagged Asia’s Leading Dive Destination award since 2006.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the DOT was granted Asia’s Leading Tourism Board for promoting breathtaking destinations in the country with an aim to strengthen Philippine Tourism.<\/p>\n

DOT Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, meanwhile, said that they wanted to ensure the diving safety of divers through the help of the Philippine Commission on Sports Scuba Diving.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the country organized its first Philippine International Dive Expo at Conrad Hotel in Pasay City, which was graced by renowned diving experts, scientists, marine conservationists, and international dive buyers to discuss sustainable diving practices.<\/p>\n
