You might want to start setting your morning alarms earlier because a heavy traffic situation is expected along the <\/span>South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) <\/b>in areas of Alabang<\/strong> and San Pedro City, Laguna\u00a0<\/strong>until 2020<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

San Miguel Corporation (SMC)\u2019s recent construction of the Skyway Extension Project<\/b> at SLEX aims to extend the existing South Metro Manila Skyway System by providing direct access from Susana Heights<\/strong> to Sucat<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Currently, the Skyway At-grade ends in Alabang.<\/span><\/p>\n

The project includes the construction of two convertible and three additional lanes<\/strong> at SLEX and a connecting ramp<\/strong> from Alabang viaduct to Skyway Main Toll Plaza<\/strong> for the northbound lane.<\/span><\/p>\n

As for the southbound lane, two additional lanes<\/strong>\u00a0will be constructed at Skyway Main Toll Plaza in Sucat after Filinvest Exit<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The construction started in June and is targeted to be completed on December 2020<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, said project\u00a0has been receiving negative comments from motorists and commuters bound to Metro Manila.<\/p>\n

\u2018Carmageddon\u2019<\/b><\/h3>\n

Last September 25, motorists and commuters were welcomed by heavy traffic\u00a0at SLEX due to the 3rd lane closure at the northbound lane to Alabang viaduct.<\/span><\/p>\n

Private vehicles, buses, and trucks were stuck\u00a0along SLEX for more than one hour\u2014an unusual traffic situation for most South people who frequently pass by the expressway going to Metro Manila.<\/span><\/p>\n

Motorists took their rage to social media, expressing the inconvenience caused by sudden lane closure. It resulted in what seems like an endless trail of vehicles with the tail end going as far as Santa Rosa, Laguna, which\u00a0lasted for the whole day.<\/span><\/p>\n

The traffic chaos is expected to last\u00a0until next year. Additionally, the public has been warned of the traffic that could worsen through the months,\u00a0<\/span>especially once the beams and posts\u00a0are\u00a0to be attached.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Alternate routes<\/b><\/h3>\n

To avoid the impending traffic, it is advisable to look for possible alternate routes going to the Metro.<\/span><\/p>\n

Instead of\u00a0driving through Susana Heights, you may opt to take the Manila S Road<\/strong> going to Star Mall Alabang. From that point, you can enter SLEX at Alabang Toll Plaza<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"Instead of taking the Susana Heights entrance of SLEX, the Manila S Road is an alternative route going to Alabang without going through Alabang viaduct<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

The Muntinlupa City Government,\u00a0with the help of San Miguel Corporation Tollway, will also implement a one-way traffic scheme<\/strong>\u00a0on the East Service Road of SLEX<\/strong> effective before October 15<\/strong> in the hopes to ease traffic.<\/p>\n

In a statement released by SLEX, they are requesting for more patience from the public for the inconvenience caused by the project.<\/span><\/p>\n

The management advised motorists and commuters to plan their trips with at least one to two hours of lead time.<\/span><\/p>\n
