(MBFI) president<\/span><b> Aniceto Sobrepe\u00f1a<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in his welcome remarks explained how MADE became an extension of Metrobank\u2019s commitment to engage with communities, improve lives, and boost the economic growth of the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-48326\" src=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2019\/09\/IMG_6078-005.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"801\" height=\"534\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cOur founder Dr. George S.K. TY was not just a man who owned a bank, but an artisan of meaningful banking. He envisioned art as an asset to our democracy, and an important investment for economic development,\u201d Sobrepe\u00f1a said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This year,<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">five artists were recognized for their beautifully executed artworks that carry a deeper meaning and commentary on today\u2019s societal woes and individual dilemmas.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Jayme Emille Lucas,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> who hails from Tarlac, was the <\/span><b>Grand Awardee on the Oil\/Acrylic on Canvas Category<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> with her work, <\/span><b>Evanescing Lives from the Homeland<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-48321\" src=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2019\/09\/IMG_6151-018.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"801\" height=\"534\" srcset=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2019\/09\/IMG_6151-018.jpg 801w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2019\/09\/IMG_6151-018-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2019\/09\/IMG_6151-018-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 801px) 100vw, 801px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The piece depicts three generations of farmers standing amidst stalks of sugarcane and displaying an almost provocative expression, as if ready to tell their plights to the viewers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Around them are apparitions of who might be those who came before them. The visual is deeply influenced by the kind of environment that the artist lives in and all other places she has been.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" <\/span><b>Grand Awardee for the Watermedia on Paper Category<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, on the other hand, is 23-year old Fine Arts graduate <\/span><b>Christian Jame Maglente<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">His painting called<\/span><b> Existence of Blue <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">is a depiction of one of the pressing problems of the world that no one wants to talk about\u2014depression.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-48323\" src=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2019\/09\/IMG_6139-001.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"533\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2019\/09\/IMG_6139-001.jpg 533w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2019\/09\/IMG_6139-001-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 533px) 100vw, 533px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A central figure is crouched on top of a pillar covered by a splatter of pigments, skulls, and skeletons, which may point to chaotic thoughts on life, death, and morality a person in a depressive state may have.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There is also an occasional appearance of flames that one can take as both a sign of destruction or cleansing\u2013like a phoenix rising from the fire.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Overall, it tries to show the complexity of the struggle with the mind.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img Php 500,000 worth of financial assistance and a \u201cMula\u201d glass trophy designed by 2009 Metrobank Prize for Achievement in Sculpture (MPAS) awardee Noell El Farol.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span <\/span><b>Norberto &#8220;Peewee&#8221; Roldan<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> determined this year&#8217;s winners.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Another highlight of the event was the opening of the<\/span><b> UNLEASH art exhibit<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Artworks of this year\u2019s MADE semi-finalists and national finalists were showcased and up for sale during the exhibit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Further, the night was dedicated to artistic performances by Daloy Dance Company as well as to commemorate MADE\u2019s colorful history for the past three decades.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">MADE was founded back in 1984 by the late Metrobank Group founder and Chairman Dr. George S.K. Ty.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">By that time, the economic crisis and socio-political unrest consumed the nation, and Filipinos were in search of a source of meaning and hope.
