Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA)<\/strong> is staging the annual Metro Manila Shake Drill<\/strong> on July 27<\/strong>, Saturday.<\/span><\/p>\n

Unlike the past drills that were executed during daytime, where residents of Metro Manila are usually at work or at school, this year\u2019s drill will begin at 4 a.m.<\/strong> on a weekend.<\/p>\n

In a report, MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia<\/strong> said this is done to test the response capabilities and preparedness of LGUs and the private sector as an earthquake may occur anytime.<\/span><\/p>\n

The drill will start with the pushing of the ceremonial button by MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim and GM Jojo Garcia at the MMDA Headquarters. The public will then be notified that the drill has begun through alarms from mobile phones, buildings, and their respective LGUs.<\/span><\/p>\n

As part of the efforts to give this year\u2019s drill a more realistic simulation, MMDA has partnered with Manila Water, Maynilad, Meralco, and telecommunication companies to help simulate real-life scenarios when the “big one” arrives.<\/span><\/p>\n

The drill will also\u00a0include staging of emergency scenarios\u00a0at key\u00a0areas in the Metro, such as commercial and business establishments, city hall offices, and households.<\/p>\n

Personnels will also be deployed at designated emergency operation centers located at the four quadrants in Metro Manila, namely Veterans Memorial Medical Center Golf Course<\/strong> for the northern quadrant,\u00a0Intramuros Golf Course<\/strong> for the western quadrant, LRT 2 Santolan Depot<\/strong> for the eastern quadrant, and Villamor Golf Course<\/strong> for the southern quadrant.<\/p>\n
