In an effort to enhance internet accessibility in the Philippines, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) through its Information and Communications Technology Office (ICT Office), offers to provide internet access to public places in the Philippines nationwide.<\/span><\/p>\n

FREE INTERNET. The DOST offers to provide internet access to public <\/span>places in PH.
\n<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

The project, named as \u201cFree Wi-Fi Internet Access in Public Places,\u201d shall install hotspots having a speed of 256 kbps being the lowest prevailing speed requirement for a broadband service. This project will serve 105, 000 concurrent users each with that speed. A data volume based Fair Usage Policy will be implemented so that there will be an equitable distribution of the said service.<\/span><\/p>\n

The project will be implemented in public areas such as public plazas, schools, libraries, health units, hospitals, universities, colleges,\u00a0government offices, and transport systems including train stations, airports, and seaports.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was only recently that the department got a P3 billion upgrade from the senate to become a nationwide project. The original plan was to only cover class 4, 5, and 6 municipalities with a budget of P334 million pesos.<\/span><\/p>\n

With this innovation in PH technology, many people will benefit from this internet service. This will help people in the provinces when it comes to education, and it will also serve as a cheaper alternative in telecommunication.<\/span><\/p>\n
