{"id":45392,"date":"2019-07-07T06:00:26","date_gmt":"2019-07-06T22:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/?p=45392"},"modified":"2019-07-05T12:40:48","modified_gmt":"2019-07-05T04:40:48","slug":"anahaw-certification-sustainable-hotels-resorts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/2019\/07\/07\/anahaw-certification-sustainable-hotels-resorts\/","title":{"rendered":"ANAHAW Certification Awards Environmentally Sustainable Hotels and Resorts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In this time of global warming and climate change, the integration of two principles of \u201csustainable\u201d and \u201cresponsible\u201d in tourism has become a relevant issue among industry leaders, organizations, and local communities.<\/p>\n<p>Under the Department of Tourism\u2019s (DOT) National Tourism Development Plan (NTDP) to \u201cdevelop highly competitive, environmentally sustainable and socially responsible tourism,\u201d the first national green certification program was launched\u2014called the <strong>ANAHAW-Philippine Sustainable Tourism Certification<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Also read: <a href=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/2018\/10\/14\/5-eco-friendly-spots-to-put-in-your-itinerary\/\" target=\"_blank\">5 Eco-Friendly Accommodations in the Philippines to Put in Your Itinerary<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-45398\" src=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2019\/07\/anahaw1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\"><em>Dr. Robert Wimmer of GrAT<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>ANAHAW has been developed by the Center for Appropriate Technology (GrAT) with the DOT to mainstream sustainable tourism and energy efficient operations in the tourism sector in\u00a0the country.<\/p>\n<p>Through the green certification program, more hotels and resorts around the country will be able to shift to more sustainable operations.\u00a0Hotels and resorts equipped with\u00a0the best practices and techniques for sustainable development and ecotourism will largely contribute to the country&#8217;s green economy, leading to a highly competitive, environmentally sound and socially responsible Philippines.<\/p>\n<p><em>Also read: <a href=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/2018\/07\/26\/wwf-lists-9-step-restaurant-guide-for-sustainable-dining\/\" target=\"_blank\">WWF Lists 9-Step Restaurant Guide for Sustainable Dining<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Official accreditation from the DOT is mandatory before hotels and resorts could apply for the ANAHAW certification, which is categorized into five levels:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Level 1 corresponds to 50 to 59% satisfaction of the applicable criteria and indicators, with savings reaching up to 29%;<\/li>\n<li>Level 2 scores between 60-69%, with savings up to 35%;<\/li>\n<li>Level 3 scores between 70-79%, with savings up to 40%;<\/li>\n<li>Level 4\u00a0scores between 80-89%,\u00a0with savings up to 46%;<\/li>\n<li>Level 5 scores between 90-100%, with savings up to 56%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Innovation in sustainability<\/h3>\n<p>GrAT\u2019s technical consultants conduct an assessment using key indicators that create a clear picture of an establishment\u2019s performance and its corresponding environmental impact.<\/p>\n<p><em>Also read: <a href=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/tips-guides\/2018\/02\/26\/tourism-vs-ecotourism-whats-the-difference\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tourism VS.
