Photo from Stephen Lovekin\/Getty Images<\/em><\/p>\n It\u2019s a sad day in Hogwarts today as the celebrated actor, who played the iconic role of Professor Severus Snape in the successful Harry Potter series, died last January 14, 2016.<\/span><\/p>\n Alan Rickman, who has been known as one of the world\u2019s greatest actors of all time passed away due to cancer. He was surrounded by his family and friends.<\/span><\/p>\n Co-workers of Rickman in all his shows, including the Harry Potter series, have expressed their sorrow with losing a great friend and mentor.<\/span><\/p>\n Author of Harry Potter books\u2019 J.K. Rowling said in her Twitter account that \u201cThere are no words to express how shocked and devastated I am to hear of Alan Rickman\u2019s death. He was a magnificent actor & a wonderful man.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n In a Google Plus post by Daniel Radcliffe, he said \u201cWorking with him at such a formative age was incredibly important and I will carry the lessons he taught me for the rest of my life and career.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n Aside from the Harry Potter series, Rickman also played several unforgettable roles both on stage and on screen. He was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company which performed classical theatre productions. Also, he starred in notable movies such as \u00a0Sheriff of Nottingham<\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves<\/a>, Harry in\u00a0Love Actually<\/a>, and Judge Turpin in the critically acclaimed\u00a0Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n He was also awarded a Golden Globe, Emmy, and Screen Actors Guild Award for his role in Rasputin: Dark Servant of Destiny<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
