Vegan desserts became the main course of PETA\u2019s Best Vegan Desserts Contest<\/strong> held\u00a0last April 4, 2019, at the Century City Mall, Makati City.\u00a0Some of the delicious animal-free desserts featured at the event include ice creams, doughnuts, cakes, and even Filipino traditional rice cakes.<\/span><\/p>\n

There were over 15 tables of merchants, home cooks, and brands all bringing out their best-tasting dessert pieces for the contest. The event visitors and VIP judges include vegan chefs, celebrities, and food influencers.<\/span><\/p>\n

One of the desserts we loved was\u00a0Cakesmith\u2019s<\/strong> decadent Prune Cake with candied walnut crunch and date caramel sauce. This fun, beautiful cake has a nice flavor and heaviness that many fruit cakes can only wish for!<\/span><\/p>\n

There were also multiple merchants selling ice cream and one of our favorites was\u00a0Super Scoops<\/strong>\u2019 Strawberries and Cream. Said to be their bestseller, the\u00a0satisfying sweetness comes from the coconut sugar and strawberries. They won PETA’s Best Vegan Ice Cream<\/strong> as well as the Best Vegan Dessert<\/strong> overall.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bento is a\u00a0creative Japanese\u00a0lunch\u00a0box filled with food of cute shapes and colors. For this event,\u00a0ImWento Box<\/strong>\u00a0created their own version of bento through their desserts such as the Sticky Rice Balls with Peanuts, Fudgy Double Chocolate Cookies, and Calaamansi Crumble Muffins.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"These cute animal-shaped sticky rice balls by ImVento Box are laid on crushed peanuts giving it one of the crowd’s favorite, visually.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Greens Spot Cafe, a cafe that’s familiar to vegans, whisked up their Compassionate Protein Bars for the event. It’s a food that’s perfect for your daily protein needs, made by only using nuts!<\/span><\/p>\n

Aging\u2019s Food Delight surprised many event guests with their cute desserts that reminded them of Filipino desserts.\u00a0Their Cutechinta with Vegan Caramel Sauce and Toasted Coconut Flakes\u00a0was dyed with natural food colors and molded into cute flowers.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/span>These flower-shaped rice cakes from Aging\u2019s Food Delight are dyed with natural ingredients such as annatto seeds, brown sugar, cocoa, pandan, and white sugar.<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Delicielo<\/strong>\u2019s impressive Creme Brulee Cashew Cheesecake was sided with small slices of mango for balance. They use high-quality cashew cream cheese that’s irresistibly good.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"Many of the delicious desserts on the floor could not make the top three but many will remember this Creme Brulee Cashew Cheesecake.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Vegan chocoholics rejoiced when The Baking Owl<\/strong> placed down towers of chocolate goodies such as the Chocolate Thumbprint Cookies with coffee in the middle and the crumbly Choco Cherry Bars. They also offered small versions of their Lemon Blueberry Cheesecake.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAll the showcased desserts prove just how delicious compassion (for animals) can be,\u201d PETA Vice President Jason Baker said.\u00a0<\/span>Other notable merchants during the event were Corner Tree Cafe, Ambassador\u2019s Ice Cream, The Lost Bread, and Antojitos.<\/span><\/p>\n
