A Retrospective Exhibition<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

The Metropolitan Museum of Manila takes its turn in celebrating the fifty creative years of National Artist BenCab (Benedicto Cabrera) with a retrospective exhibition that opened to the public on Oct. 5 and will run until Feb. 27 next year.<\/span><\/p>\n

BenCab: The Filipino Artist presents a rare opportunity to survey the prolific career of the artist through an assemblage of more than a hundred paintings, prints, drawings, and sculptures loaned from various institutional and private collections, many of which will be on public view for the first time.<\/span><\/p>\n

Each of BenCab’s five decades of artistic harvest is amply represented in the exhibition. It starts from his early works as an art student, to his 1960s paintings when he began as a professional artist all the way to his most recent works this year. Let BenCab’s stories, experiences, and musings expressed through his works unfold before your eyes. When asked about his favorite, he simply said, \u201cI like them all.\u201d The celebrated artist considered by many as a national treasure is currently working on a book.<\/span><\/p>\n

This exhibit is a part of a series of eight exhibitions in eight museums marking the Fifty Creative Years of the National Artist. The next installments will be held at the Ayala Museum, the National Museum, and at the University of the Philippines. The Metropolitan Museum is located at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Complex, Roxas Boulevard, Manila.<\/span><\/p>\n
