A number of domestic and international flights at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) were canceled by airlines yesterday, due to the upgrading and maintenance work of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) on the air navigational system.<\/p>\n

\"\"The CNS\/ATM system is expected to enhance the safety and efficiency of air traffic and airspace management in the country<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

The government called to reduce the number of flights as the CAAP transfers the old Manila Autonomous Cruise Control (ACC) radar to a more enhanced Communications, Navigation, Surveillance\/Air Traffic Management (CNS\/ATM) system.<\/p>\n

Affecting arriving flights from 12 a.m. to 6 a.m.<\/strong>, the maintenance work will start on November 12 to 17<\/strong>, as well as November 20 to 22<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The flight reduction has been coordinated among Philippine-based airlines and the Airport Coordination Australia (ACA). It is the airlines’ discretion as to which flights to cancel.<\/p>\n

Cebu Pacific<\/h4>\n

For Cebu Pacific flights, affected passengers have already been notified about the schedule changes and the options they may avail to re-book their flights within 30 days from original departure date. Passengers also have the option to\u00a0get a full refund or place the cost of the ticket in a Travel Fund for future use.<\/p>\n

Philippine Airlines<\/h4>\n

The Philippine Airlines (PAL) is advising affected passengers to rebook their flights within 30 days from original travel date. Rebooking fees will be waived, but passengers also have the option to reroute or refund.<\/p>\n

Affected passengers may call PAL Hotline 02-855-8888 for the rebooking of their tickets.<\/p>\n

Other airline companies are expected to announce their respective lists before November 15. It is advised to contact the airlines directly through their hotlines.<\/p>\n

The CAAP wishes to advise the public that this necessary measure is only effective for a short period, ensuring a smooth transition from the old radar system to a more enhanced air navigation system.
