A few decades ago, it would have been unthinkable to even consider that people, let alone children, would ever be dependent on electronic screens that are roughly the size of their hands. Yet, here we are, with the topics of kids and smartphones in constant debate.<\/p>\n

More and more medical professionals are up in arms against it and for good reason too. Numerous studies have found that prolonged smartphone use affects children negatively.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

But for all its bad rap, one can\u2019t deny that this handy gadget has its uses too. For one thing, if parents think that they can\u2019t keep their phones away from their tots for long, they can at least utilize this technology to let their kids learn a thing or two.<\/p>\n

Endless ABC<\/strong><\/p>\n

Reading is a skill that is prized just about anywhere. And how does one learn to read? By learning the alphabet, of course! If your kids are gradually getting bored of their alphabet book, why don\u2019t you give Endless ABC a go?<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The point of the game is fairly simple. A word is shown on screen which a bunch of cute, rowdy monsters mess up. The child then has to spell the word by matching the colorful letters to the template.<\/p>\n

The words can be complicated at times but since the kids are only meant to spell them out, it shouldn\u2019t be a problem.<\/p>\n

Shapes & Colors<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fisher-Price has long been associated with children\u2019s toys and baby things so it\u2019s no surprise that when they joined the gadget market, their apps catered to toddlers and babies.<\/p>\n

A toy found in nearly every child\u2019s nursery is a plastic cube with holes of specific shapes. The Shapes & Colors app shakes things up a bit by assigning a color for each shape which kids then have to match to a corresponding tile.<\/p>\n

Toilet Trained<\/strong><\/p>\n

An inevitable part of parenthood is potty training and many an exasperated parent will say that getting the kids to do their business at the toilet is like telling a rock to get out of your way.<\/p>\n

Thankfully, there\u2019s now an app that can make the dreaded task more fun.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The kids have to make the characters eat or drink and then assist them in using the toilet. The app teaches them how to use toilet paper, how to flush, and always reminds them to wash their hands afterward.<\/p>\n

Healthy Eater<\/strong><\/p>\n

Let\u2019s face it: How many kids would willingly put vegetables in their mouth? Not many, probably. Perhaps it\u2019s not such a bad thing to turn healthy eating into a game.<\/p>\n

In the game Healthy Eater, kids have to feed an adorable baby panda first, by choosing what he eats and then feeding him bite by bite. It will then show the importance of eating healthy such as having energy, growing big and strong, and fighting diseases. Eating broccoli has never been this fun.<\/p>\n

Home Safety<\/strong><\/p>\n

The adorable panda is back, this time teaching kids about home safety, especially if they are home alone. For example, it teaches kids never to leave their toys scattered everywhere because it can cause accidents. It also teaches them to put things in their proper place. More importantly, it teaches kids never to open doors to complete strangers.<\/p>\n

To keep kids away from technology for good is probably wishful thinking. Instead, it may be better to utilize such things properly and use them to our advantage instead. These smartphone apps are all available on Play Stpre and the App Store.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
