{"id":33185,"date":"2018-08-17T11:00:08","date_gmt":"2018-08-17T03:00:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/?p=33185"},"modified":"2018-08-17T18:07:06","modified_gmt":"2018-08-17T10:07:06","slug":"airlines-cancel-flights-after-naia-runway-closure-runway-expected-to-reopen-at-noontime","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/2018\/08\/17\/airlines-cancel-flights-after-naia-runway-closure-runway-expected-to-reopen-at-noontime\/","title":{"rendered":"Airlines Cancel Flights after NAIA Runway Shutdown; Closure Extends"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Flights from several airlines going through the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) have been cancelled today, <strong>August 17<\/strong>, after\u00a0a Chinese aircraft lands on the airport&#8217;s runway,\u00a0due to torrential rainfall brought by the monsoon.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33195\" src=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2018\/08\/NAIA-airport.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"638\" height=\"426\" srcset=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2018\/08\/NAIA-airport.jpg 638w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2018\/08\/NAIA-airport-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 638px) 100vw, 638px\" \/><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\"><em>IMAGE Philstar\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Among airlines who have announced their flight cancellations are <strong>Philippine Airlines<\/strong> with their Manila to Cebu, Cebu to Manila flights (PR 1845, PR 1846, PR 453, PR 454), <strong>Saudia Airlines<\/strong> with their Manila to Jeddah flight (SV 871), <strong>Hong Kong Airlines<\/strong> with Hong Kong to Manila flight (HX 781), <strong>Etihad Airways<\/strong> with Manila to Abu Dhabi (EY 421), <strong>Cathay Pacific<\/strong> flights from\u00a0Manila to Hong Kong (CX 900, CX 906, CX 908, CX 912), <strong>China Airlines\u00a0<\/strong>with Kaohsiung to Manila and Manila to Kaohsiung flights (CI 711 and CI 712),\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Tiger Airways\u00a0<\/strong>flights from Manila to Hong Kong and Hong Kong to Manila.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, <strong>Pacific Airlines<\/strong> flights from San Francisco to Manila (PR 115) and Vancouver to Manila (PR 117) were\u00a0diverted to Mactan Cebu International Airport.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cebu Pacific<\/strong>, after expressing their concern for the closure of the airport&#8217;s main runway, listed down their cancelled flights from <strong>Manila to Hong Kong <\/strong>(5J 272 and\u00a05J 110), <strong>Manila to Bangkok<\/strong> (5J 929), and <strong>Manila to Narita<\/strong> (5J 5054), as well as 2 cancelled Manila-bound flights from <strong>Singapore<\/strong> (5J 804) and <strong>Incheon<\/strong> (5J 187).<\/p>\n<p>According to Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), the\u00a0Xiamen Air flight MF 8667, which landed on the runway due to the downpour, had 157 passengers and 8 crews who were evacuated via emergency chutes and were\u00a0ushered safely to NAIA Terminal 1, and later, to a hotel.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Aircraft Accident Bureau had already reached out to the Xiamen Airlines as the aircraft accident underwent probing by perusing the aircraft&#8217;s body which hard landed along the runway.
