{"id":32026,"date":"2018-07-29T09:00:28","date_gmt":"2018-07-29T01:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/?p=32026"},"modified":"2018-08-13T11:47:27","modified_gmt":"2018-08-13T03:47:27","slug":"2-filipinas-candidates-of-one-way-red-planet-journey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/2018\/07\/29\/2-filipinas-candidates-of-one-way-red-planet-journey\/","title":{"rendered":"2 Filipinas, Candidates of One-Way Red Planet Journey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When mankind first sent its own species to space, science and technology debunked the idea that Earth confines the wisdom of men&#8212;the room for knowledge grew ever so extensively, drawing humans away from the context of \u00a0\u2018impossibility\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>In 2015, the <strong>Mars One Project<\/strong>, headed by Bas Lansdorp, announced that its selection committee had chosen 100 candidates who\u00a0 are one step nearer to the mission of establishing a permanent human colony in Mars starting 2024.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">US $6 billion<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">project is under the supervision of 30 industry and scientific experts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-32080\" src=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2018\/07\/Mars_One_whitebkgrd-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1004\" height=\"354\" srcset=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2018\/07\/Mars_One_whitebkgrd-2.png 1004w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2018\/07\/Mars_One_whitebkgrd-2-300x106.png 300w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2018\/07\/Mars_One_whitebkgrd-2-768x271.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1004px) 100vw, 1004px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">From 202,586 applicants, only 100 people \u00a0(50 men and 50 women) were chosen as candidates for the red planet journey. The Mars One volunteers consist of people from different parts of the globe: 39 from the US, 31 from Europe,\u00a0seven from Africa, 16 from Asia, and seven from Oceania.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Among 100 red-planet hopefuls are Filipinas, <\/span><b>Minerva \u2018Mimi\u2019 Ra<\/b><b>\u00f1eses <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">of Pasig City, and <\/span><b>Jaymee Orillosa del Rosario<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">who is currently in Southern California.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Minerva Ra\u00f1eses<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Minerva Ra\u00f1eses \u00a0describes herself as a very philosophical person who is willing to explore the vast fields of undiscovered \u00a0knowledge\u00a0\u201cI am curious about a lot of things, my goal upon applying for Mars One is to seek knowledge,&#8221; says Ra\u00f1eses, adding she likes to read and deliberate political issues on her own.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In an interview, Ra\u00f1eses explains that the\u00a0second round of the selection process required volunteers to answer\u00a0five questions that shall test their mental status and capabilities. \u201cIn the final interview, there were\u00a0five questions that we can say are \u2018mental aptitude tests&#8217;, they gave us reviewers, but the last question is a some sort of a trick question,\u201d shares Ra\u00f1eses.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-32081\" src=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2018\/07\/BeFunky-collage-1-1024x514.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"514\" srcset=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2018\/07\/BeFunky-collage-1-1024x514.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2018\/07\/BeFunky-collage-1-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2018\/07\/BeFunky-collage-1-768x385.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">Minerva &#8216;Mimi&#8217;\u00a0Ra\u00f1eses describes the Mars One project<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">One question that volunteers have to answer is a test of their determination and willingness:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><strong><i>\u201cIf <\/i><i>in three years, \u00a0the technology to bring humans back to Earth is already available, would you go back?\u201d<\/i><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ra\u00f1eses\u2019 answer to this question is <\/span><b>no<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We\u2019ve been on Earth for thousands of years, and yet, there are still things here left undiscovered, I believe that Mars still has a lot of things left in store for us as well&#8212;three years is not enough\u201d the candidate explained. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Today, Ra\u00f1eses, who\u00a0is now in\u00a0law school, is still firm on her decision to leave Earth permanently. \u201cOur family culture is different from other families, my dad and my brothers are seafarers, we used to be away from each other.
