{"id":31085,"date":"2018-07-14T13:00:31","date_gmt":"2018-07-14T05:00:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/?p=31085"},"modified":"2018-07-13T13:58:47","modified_gmt":"2018-07-13T05:58:47","slug":"phenom-to-represent-philippines-at-global-red-bull-reign-finals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/2018\/07\/14\/phenom-to-represent-philippines-at-global-red-bull-reign-finals\/","title":{"rendered":"Phenom to Represent Philippines at Global Red Bull Reign Finals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Saturday, June 30, 2018, sixteen teams, finalists from the previous Qualifiers (Manila A, Manila B, Last Chance), went head-to-head at the Red Bull Reign Finals at Taft Food by the Court in Pasay City. <strong>Phenom<\/strong> emerged as the tournament winners and earned the chance to represent the Philippines at the Red Bull Reign World Finals.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-31086\" src=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2018\/07\/RB_Group-Photo-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" srcset=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2018\/07\/RB_Group-Photo-1.jpg 800w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2018\/07\/RB_Group-Photo-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2018\/07\/RB_Group-Photo-1-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Red Bull Reign<\/strong> is a high-endurance, offense-driven 3&#215;3 basketball tournament that gathers the world\u2019s top ballers to battle it out for the chance to compete at the World Finals in <strong>Washington, DC, USA<\/strong>. The rules are simple: the team that scores the most overall points in each round will advance until only one team remains.<\/p>\n<p>The final sixteen teams consisted of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>LGU<\/li>\n<li>PACITA<\/li>\n<li>SOULDIER<\/li>\n<li>Kervy<\/li>\n<li>LA<\/li>\n<li>Team Kate<\/li>\n<li>Better Basketball PH<\/li>\n<li>VVEstrada<\/li>\n<li>Sy Men<\/li>\n<li>HumKins<\/li>\n<li>Phenom<\/li>\n<li>King of Hoops<\/li>\n<li>Evogen<\/li>\n<li>Tough Gear C<\/li>\n<li>Tough Gear A<\/li>\n<li>7 Eleven<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The event kicked off with the Last Chance Qualifier that enabled Phenom to advance to the Finals later that afternoon. Over the course of the day, each team collided in a series of round-robin style matches, intensified by familiar players like former NCAA player from Lyceum of the Philippines \u2013 Seraj Elmejrab of team PACITA, former UAAP player from UST Growling Tigers \u2013 John Jordan Sta. Ana of team Phenom, and Senior Board Member of Ilocos Norte \u2013 Matthew Marcos Manotoc of LGU.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-31088\" src=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2018\/07\/RB_In-Action-Photo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" srcset=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2018\/07\/RB_In-Action-Photo.jpg 800w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2018\/07\/RB_In-Action-Photo-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2018\/07\/RB_In-Action-Photo-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s super robust. Everywhere, you have people playing basketball \u2013 old to young, good to not very good, it\u2019s always been a very healthy basketball scene,\u201d says Manotoc. \u201cProbably one of the most vibrant in the world, very proud of the basketball scene, and Red Bull Reign is just a testament to that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Red Bull Reign progressed into the semi-finals, which saw three rounds of competitive back-to-back contests between <strong>Phenom, Souldier, and LGU<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Despite delays due to the weather throughout the day, Phenom and LGU later advanced to the finals with a score of 46-to-50. Both teams collided on the court but Phenom would emerge as the Philippine Champions, at a score of 10-to-06. The winning team included team captain, Carl Kenneth Sumalacan, Jarrold Flores, John Rom Alvarado, and John Jordan Sta. Ana.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-31087\" src=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2018\/07\/RB_Group-Photo-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday was extremely difficult, it was as if we went through the eye of a needle. They were all skilled and hungry to win,\u201d shares Sumalacan. \u201cWe are happy and at the same time, excited. We were constantly worn out, but it was all worth it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For the second year in a row, PBA legend <strong>Vince Hizon<\/strong> oversaw Red Bull Reign as tournament director.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re really trying to get bigger and better every year. And I think we\u2019re definitely doing that,\u201d says Hizon. \u201cRed Bull truly made a big presence here and what\u2019s nice is the homegrown presence. So hopefully, Phenom represents us well in Washington D.C., and we\u2019re praying for the best.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to sports consultant, Al Delos Reyes, \u201cWhat\u2019s good about Red Bull Reign is that it opens another door for amateurs who, even though haven\u2019t been part of any basketball professional leagues, get the chance to represent the Philippines against 60+ countries.
