Every July, The Philippines-Japan Friendship Month is celebrated with an assortment of exciting cultural events to\u00a0commemorate the longstanding warm friendship and cooperation between Philippines and Japan.<\/p>\n

Japanese Film Festival: 21st EIGASAI<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The 21st year of EIGASAI runs from July 4 to August 26, 2018, with\u00a015 full-feature films of diverse genres on over 100 screenings across five major cities nationwide. Cinemas will include but not limited to Greenbelt, Cinematheque Center Manila, Cine Adarna in UP Diliman, SM City Davao, Naga, Bacolod and Ayala Center Cebu. There will be a schedule of talks after the screening and even a special silent film narration performance.<\/p>\n

Baguio Tanabata Festival<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Organized by the Japanese Association in Northern Luzon\u00a0(JANL)\u00a0<\/em>and Filipino-Japanese Foundation of Northern Luzon\u00a0(Abong), this year\u2019s\u00a0Baguio Tanabata Festival\u00a0<\/strong>will be offering tourism poster exhibitions, Japanese film screenings, workshops, plus Japanese instrument and performances. This year, the festival will go from\u00a0July 7\u00a0<\/strong>to\u00a0September 16, 2018,<\/strong>\u00a0on multiple venues including Baguio Country Club, Japanese Garden, and Baguio Museum.<\/p>\n

Writing in Two Worlds: An Afternoon with\u00a0Yoko Tawada<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Two worlds come together as an award-winning bilingual writer, Yoko Tawada talks in a unique literary event in Manila next month. Hosted by The Japan Foundation Manila and Goethe-Institut Philippinen with De La Salle University, \u201cWriting in Two Worlds: An Afternoon with Yoko Tawada<\/strong>\u201d happens this July 9, 2018, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the 20th floor Multipurpose Room, Andrew Gonzalez Hall, De La Salle University.<\/p>\n

Travel Madness Expo 2018: The Japan Foundation Booth<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Gather together at the\u00a07th Travel Madness Expo<\/strong> (TME)\u00a0this July 5 to 8, 2018 at the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City. Every TME, The Japan Foundation puts up a \u201cVisit Japan\u201d booth\u00a0to introduce many attractions and travel deals to Japan. Participants can experience Japanese cultural activities such as origami and shodo at the booth.<\/p>\n

Silent Film\u00a0Screening with Filipino Benshi and Musical Accompaniment<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Japan Foundation Manila in partnership with Ateneo de Naga University present the first-ever performance by Filipino\u00a0benshi<\/em>\u00a0(silent film narrator) accompanying Yasujiro Ozu\u2019s silent film comedy:\u00a0A Straightforward Boy<\/em>. The Filipino\u00a0benshi<\/em>\u2019s captivating live interpretation of the Japanese silent film will be backed also by a Filipino band from Naga composing original music for the film on July 25 at the Ateneo de Naga University, Naga City.<\/p>\n

The Spirit of Budo: The History of Japan’s Martial Arts Exhibition<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The Spirit of Budo: The History of Japan’s Martial Arts Exhibition will open soon at The National Museum of Fine Arts, Manila. The duration is yet to be announced but the upcoming\u00a0traveling exhibition is known to present originals and reproductions of historical weapons, suits of armor, as well as thorough materials and photo panels of popular sports and exercises like Kendo, Sumo, and Judo.<\/p>\n

Be festive this month as the whole country celebrates the Philippines-Japan Friendship Month! The event is made possible as the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines and the Japan Foundation Manila\u00a0bring Japanese culture to the Filipinos this July 2018.<\/p>\n
