Set to be the\u00a0second largest airport in the Philippines, Terminal 2 is designed to handle up to 8 million international passengers per year after a period of 10 years. Now 96% complete, GMR-Megawide Cebu Airport Corporation (GMCAC) is looking to invite stakeholders, media, engineering students, and those from the tourism industry for its opening.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-47643\" src=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2018\/05\/Mactan-Cebu-International-airport-1024x665.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"665\" srcset=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2018\/05\/Mactan-Cebu-International-airport-1024x665.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2018\/05\/Mactan-Cebu-International-airport-300x195.jpg 300w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2018\/05\/Mactan-Cebu-International-airport-768x499.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\"><em>The roof structure of the terminal is constructed from glulam (laminated timber,) a natural and sustainable material made from timber. This is the biggest project of its kind to introduce glulam as the main building structure in the world.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>MCIA Terminal 2\u00a0is a three-floor building with a total of\u00a065,000 square meters of space. With a goal to be\u00a0a green building, the sustainable\u00a0and energy-efficient airport terminal looks to be the world&#8217;s friendliest airport terminal, showcasing the warmth and hospitality of Cebuanos.<\/p>\n<p>The most recognizable element is the roof that gives a nod to ocean waves and the Cebuano heritage of furniture making as it is made of an array of <em>gulam<\/em>\u00a0arches. The curves enable Terminal 2 to be as column-free as possible, resulting\u00a0in Terminal 2&#8217;s 26-meter-high ceiling that promotes good air circulation.\u00a0This creates a fresher, cooler environment significantly reducing the terminal\u2019s need for air conditioning.<\/p>\n<p>The new airport will also feature an impregnable 3-layer glass wall system to bring in natural light and deflect heat, keeping the interiors cool and well-lit. It&#8217;s also an environment-friendly solution, as it helps lower the terminal&#8217;s carbon footprint!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-47644\" src=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2018\/05\/mactan-airport-terminal-2-01.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"512\" srcset=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2018\/05\/mactan-airport-terminal-2-01.jpg 768w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2018\/05\/mactan-airport-terminal-2-01-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\"><em>The polished concrete floor will have Mother of Pearls mixed in so it would sparkle like sand in the sunlight, matching the wave design of the ceiling.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The opening of\u00a0MCIA Terminal 2 is scheduled on July 1, 2018.\u00a0Once the new terminal is operational,\u00a0GMCAC said they will start a major renovation of Terminal 1.
