The Philippines may soon get the chance to have more electric cars as the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) unveiled an electric vehicle (EV) charging station at their central office in Quezon City.<\/span><\/p>\n

The charging station was unveiled last February 15 and was attended by representatives from the DENR, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation Philippines, and the Manila Electric Company (Meralco).<\/span><\/p>\n

The EV quick charging station was donated to the DENR by MMC to fulfill its role of reducing pollution, following a grant of 10 electric vehicles from its Mitsubishi i-MiEV and Outlander PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) lines.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis EV charging station will definitely be of great help in promoting the use of electric as well hybrid cars that are more environment-friendly option than gas-powered vehicles,\u201d DENR Undersecretary for Policy, Planning and International Affairs Jonas Leones said during the unveiling ceremony.<\/span><\/p>\n

Leones added that the project was not only \u201ctimely but also supportive of the thrust of Secretary Roy Cimatu towards intensified environmental protection, particularly clean air. It also a first step in creating a network of chargers for electric vehicles in the country, especially in highly urbanized cities.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are already working with the DENR to conduct a study on how to reduce carbon emissions through the use of electric vehicles. The creation of a charging infrastructure is a crucial step in enabling the market growth of electric vehicles in the Philippines,\u201d said MMPC President and CEO Mutsuhiro Oshikiri.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOur partnership with the Philippine government provides a clear demonstration of how we at MMC and MMPC are working together with policymakers to encourage the adoption of cleaner fuels and to reduce CO2 emissions,\u201d Oshikiri added.<\/span><\/p>\n
