Filipino lyrics accompanied by the koto? Or the high notes of a woodwind instrument along with the heart-pounding beats of the Taiko drum? The answer: All of the above!<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><em>Taiko<\/em> refers to a broad range of Japanese percussion instruments, \u201cbroad\u201d being the key word.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/event\/2015\/04\/07\/the-taiko-effect-drums-of-change\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Taiko Effect: Drums of Change<\/a> was certainly broad, as it featured many aspects of the Japanese culture. With performances from the Mt. Fuji Symphony Orchestra and Arahan &amp; Hasegawa Karate, the guests dining at Banzai: The Great Teppanyaki Theater last April 10<sup>th<\/sup> and the audience at CCP Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo last April 11<sup>th<\/sup> and 12<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0were\u00a0not only entertained, but learned a thing or two about Japan as well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><strong>The Taiko Effect at Banzai<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">On April 10, 2015, the diners and guests of the Banzai Restaurant at SM Mall of Asia were given a sneak peek of what The Taiko Effect is about. Afterwards, Yu Miyoshi was introduced to play the <em>koto<\/em>, a traditional Japanese string instrument. After playing <em>Ikaw<\/em>, a Filipino pop song, he played some traditional Japanese music with Mariko Saito on the flute.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2103\" src=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/staff-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2015\/04\/img2.jpg\" alt=\"img2\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2015\/04\/img2.jpg 640w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2015\/04\/img2-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Hasegawa Karate against the Taiko Effect backdrop<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Of course, the main event was the <em>Taiko<\/em>. The performers impressed the audience with a comprehensive show of what you can do with drums\u2014from soft, slow beats to hard, fast and loud thumps. The drums themselves have different sounds, with low, high and medium tones.
