{"id":19501,"date":"2017-07-31T08:59:09","date_gmt":"2017-07-31T00:59:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/?p=19501"},"modified":"2017-07-31T18:09:17","modified_gmt":"2017-07-31T10:09:17","slug":"dot-launches-invite-home-a-friend-program-for-fil-ams-in-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/2017\/07\/31\/dot-launches-invite-home-a-friend-program-for-fil-ams-in-us\/","title":{"rendered":"DoT launches \u2018Invite Home a Friend\u2019 program for Fil-Ams in US"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you have Filipino-American friends who have since left the country for the US, it\u2019s high time you asked them to come back.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Tourism (DoT) just revived its \u201cInvite Home a Friend\u201d program which targets Filipino <em>balikbayans<\/em> or expatriates in North America, particularly the young professionals, millennials, and social media influencers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-19504\" src=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2017\/07\/2-6.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\"><em>Tourism Secretary Wanda Tulfo-Teo made an impassioned call to the Filipino-American community to &#8220;Invite Home a Friend&#8221; during a welcome reception held last week at the Mayflower restaurant in down town Los Angeles.\/IMAGE Department of Tourism<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The announcement was made by Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo during her visit to the state of California. They plan to run the program every quarter of the year via a raffle draw and a <em>balikbayan <\/em>nominee by September. The travel reward won may be used anytime between January and April 2018, according to Teo.<\/p>\n<p>The program\u2019s mechanics have yet to be finalized, but Teo already asked the DoT in Los Angeles, California to spread the word to the Filipino American community. We will pair them with other preferred Asian destinations like Philippines-Singapore, Philippines-Bangkok, Philippines-Hong Kong, and Philippines-Kuala Lumpur, just to mention a few,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the sites they seek to promote to FilAms are Siquijor, Masbate, Negros Province, Palawan, Cebu, Baguio, Davao, and Ilocos. With our beautiful destinations as a backdrop, it is in the company of great people that make every visit to the Philippines more memorable and worth coming back for,\u201d Jimenez said.<\/p>\n<p>North America continues to be the second-largest source of tourists, with visitors from Asia the only one to outpace them.
