On Monday, June 12, is the celebration of Independence Day of the Philippines. As always, Independence Day here in this country is considered to be a holiday, this can also be the time to wander around and visit historical places. In this article, we share some known historical places here in the Philippines. Some are located in Metro Manila while others are found in different cities.<\/p>\n

Fort Santiago in Manila<\/strong><\/span>

\nLocated in the Intramuros in Manila, Fort Santiago is the oldest Spanish fortress in the\u00a0Philippines. An entrance fee\u00a0is Php 100 for adults, Php 60 for students. You can enjoy an all day pass to discovered what lies inside the one of the hidden scenery walled in Fort Santiago. Visit the Rizal Shrine or enter the museum that has artifacts from the Spanish era, you can also follow the footsteps of Philippine National Hero, Dr. Jose Rizal.<\/p>\n

Rizal Park in Manila

\nProbably one of the famous spots in Manila, as families, friends and even couple gathers around the park everyday especially during the weekend. Rizal Park is also known as Luneta Park and is\u00a0famous among tourist spot and also a destination to locals, Rizal Park is historical for the monument as\u00a0his remains serves as the park’s symbolic focal point.<\/p>\n

Calle Crisologo is named after a prominent son of Ilocos, Mena Pecson Crisologo. During the years, the street has been preserved to remain its Spanish colonial architecture legacy that makes it a tourist attraction in the Philippines. The streets also houses various\u00a0souvenir shops, cafes, bars, and hotels which are previously ancestral homes of well-known figures in the past. Horse carriages \u00a0or what the local calls as calesa<\/em> are used as mode of transportation for tours.<\/p>\n

Magellan’s Cross in Cebu
\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\nKnown as the Queen City of the South, Cebu is one of the many tourist destinations in the Philippines. One of which is Magella’s Cross, a 485-year-old cross now stands at a shrine, placed\u00a0in tindalo wood to prevent people from taking away parts of it in the belief that it has miraculous powers. If you look up the ceiling is painted with a scene depicting Magellan\u2019s landing in Cebu in 1521, and the planting of the original cross on the shore.<\/p>\n

Corregidor Island\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

In the province of Cavita, the Coreggidor Island is one place you’ll need to visit here in the Philippines. Here you can find, a Spanish Island and their Ruins of Mile-Long (Mile-Long Barracks), that used to be the barracks of soldiers. It is also named as the world\u2019s longest military barracks with a length of 1,520 feet. It a great place to this long weekend as it’s just a few hours and is nearby Metro Manila.<\/p>\n
