(NASDAQ: AKAM), the world\u2019s largest and most trusted cloud delivery platform, just released its First Quarter, 2017 State of the Internet\/Security Report.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">According to Akamai, the Philippines, together with Thailand and China, led the Asia Pacific cluster in gains with each country enjoying a 20% quarterly boost in average connection speeds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">The last three quarters of the report showed a consistent improvement in the Philippines\u2019 average mobile connection speed. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">&#8220;Akamai clocked the Philippines\u2019 average connection speed for Q1 2017 at 5.5 Mbps \u2013 a 20 percent change [Quarter on Quarter] and a 57 percent change [Year over Year]. The last three quarters of the report showed a consistent improvement in the Philippines\u2019 average mobile connection speed,&#8221; according to <em>Philstar<\/em> report.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Akamai, also cited the Philippines\u2019 improvements in other categories.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">The recent Akamai report also mentioned that, \u201calthough the Philippines has the lowest ranking among Asia Pacific countries\/regions for this metric, as well as some of the broadband adoption metrics, first quarter announcements suggest it may see improvements to its infrastructure in coming years, as Philippine President Duterte approved a plan to deploy a national broadband network at an estimated cost of $1.5 billion to $4.0 billion (77 billion to 200 billion pesos). The network will be used to host a national portal and other online government services, as well as to connect remote areas of the country that are underserved by existing broadband providers.
