Well, that might soon be a reality as a bill looking to do just that has passed the committee level at the House of Representatives (HOR).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-17015\" src=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2017\/05\/pexels-photo-140945.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" srcset=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2017\/05\/pexels-photo-140945.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2017\/05\/pexels-photo-140945-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2017\/05\/pexels-photo-140945-768x512.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\"><em>IMAGINE DOING THIS FOR only four days a week instead of five.\/IMAGE Pexels<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>House Bill 5068, which looks to shave off a day from the usual five-day or six-day work weeks by increasing a normal eight-hour workday to 10 or 12 hours, was unanimously approved by the House Committee on Labor and Employment last Monday, May 15.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-17016\" src=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2017\/05\/1-14.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" srcset=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2017\/05\/1-14.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2017\/05\/1-14-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2017\/05\/1-14-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\"><em>IMAGE House of Representatives<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The bill looks to amend Articles 83, 87, and 91 of Presidential Decree No. 442, known as the Labor Code of the Philippines, to \u201callow employees to complete their working hours on a compressed workweek scheme,\u201d (Art. 83), be paid overtime if they render work beyond the usual 40 or 48 hours required for the week (Art. 87), and be given weekly rest days of two (for 48-hour workweeks) or three (for 40-hour workweeks) days. These rest days, however, would still be scheduled by your employer.<\/p>\n<p>A full version of the proposed amendments can be read <a href=\"http:\/\/www.congress.gov.ph\/legisdocs\/basic_17\/HB05068.pdf\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The bill takes its cue from Memorandum Circular No. 22 of the Civil Service Commission, which allowed government offices to compress their usual five-day workweek to only four days.<\/p>\n<p>Baguio City Rep. Mark Go, the main proponent of the bill, said in his exploratory note that the bill \u201cseeks to institutionalize the compressed work week scheme as it proves to promote competitiveness, efficiency, and productivity in business and industries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Go also sees the measure as a way to provide work-life balance for employees. &#8220;If you are working <em>ngayon<\/em>, for example, you are from Caloocan and you work in Cavite,\u00a0<em>kung\u00a0<\/em>six days\u00a0<em>ka<\/em>,\u00a0<em>&#8216;yung<\/em>\u00a0travel time\u00a0<em>napakatagal<\/em>,&#8221; Go said. &#8220;<em>Makaka<\/em>-save\u00a0<em>ang<\/em>\u00a0employees even\u00a0<em>ang<\/em>\u00a0employers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>(If, for example, you live in Caloocan and work in Cavite, you will spend a lot of time travelling because of your six-day workweek.
