Holy Week proved to be more than just a time of reflection for those in the business sector as three of the country\u2019s business tycoons passed away during Lent.<\/p>\n

Mariano Que<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mariano Que, founder of Mercury Drug Corporation, died on April 12 at the age of 96. A post from Mercury Drug\u2019s Facebook page has asked those to wish to send flowers to donate it to their favorite charitable institution instead.<\/p>\n

Mercury Drug is the country\u2019s best-known drugstore chain, with more than 1,000 stores across the country. Seen as a pioneer in the pharmaceutical retail industry, Que was conferred an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree by the University of Sto. Tomas in 2015.<\/p>\n

Roberto Aboitiz<\/strong><\/p>\n

Roberto Eduardo \u201cBobby\u201d Aboitiz, board chairman and President of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. (RAFI), died on April 13. His family did not issue any other statements about his death. He was 67.<\/p>\n

RAFI, founded in November 1966, is a non-profit organization that \u201chas worked towards elevating lives though a comprehensive approach that champions best practices in community development.\u201d It focuses on integrated development, micro-finance and entrepreneurship, culture and heritage, leadership and citizenship, and education.<\/p>\n

Alfonso Yuchengco<\/strong><\/p>\n

Banking and insurance tycoon Alfonso T. Yuchengco, founder and chairman of the Yuchengco Group of Companies, passed away last April 15 at 94 years old. In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange on Monday, April 17, RCBC said \u201cour bank is mourning the untimely demise of our chairman emeritus, Ambassador Alfonso T. Yuchengco who passed away last Saturday, April 15, 2017.\u201d<\/p>\n

Apart from leading one of the country\u2019s largest banking institutions, Yuchengco also served as the Philippine\u2019s permanent representative to the United Nations, as well as being the Philippine ambassador to the People\u2019s Republic of China (\u201986 \u2013 \u201988) and Japan (\u201995 \u2013 \u201998).<\/p>\n
