{"id":15343,"date":"2017-04-07T09:58:50","date_gmt":"2017-04-07T01:58:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/?p=15343"},"modified":"2017-04-07T18:15:55","modified_gmt":"2017-04-07T10:15:55","slug":"japans-musashino-art-university-partners-with-sorsogon-artisans-for-manila-fame-april-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/2017\/04\/07\/japans-musashino-art-university-partners-with-sorsogon-artisans-for-manila-fame-april-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"Japan\u2019s Musashino Art University partners with Sorsogon artisans for Manila FAME April 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Professors and students from Japan\u2019s prestigious Musashino Art University (MAU) worked closely with several artisans from Sorsogon, a province in the Bicol region, to manufacture home furnishings and fashion accessories made from the province\u2019s natural materials, such as coconut, <em>karagomoy <\/em>(<span class=\"st\">a palm grass resembling a pineapple plant<\/span>), and pili shells, under the initiative of Makiko Deguchi from the Japan International Cooperation Agency\u2019s (JICA) Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV), and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) \u2013 Sorsogon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Also read:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/2017\/03\/31\/sneak-peek-what-to-expect-at-the-65th-manila-fame-2017\/\" target=\"_blank\">SNEAK PEEK: What to expect at the 65th Manila FAME 2017<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">The project introduces new design perspective and skills to the region\u2019s handicraft producers to help strengthen the development of export-ready products across the province, as well as encourage students from Bicol University to become local designers.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"> \u201cIt\u2019s more of the way thinking, rather than skills with regards to the materials used. We want to impart to them how the beauty of the material itself is very important,\u201d said MAU professor of interior design, Shinichi Ito.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15344\" src=\"https:\/\/primer.com.ph\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2017\/04\/ShinichiIto.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"701\" height=\"392\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">The \u201cKalikasan Sorsogon\u201d brand includes home furnishings and fashion accessories and will be launched at the 65th edition of Manila FAME, the Philippines\u2019 premier lifestyle and design event, on April 21 -23, 2017 at the World Trade Center, Metro Manila. Manila FAME is organized by the Center of International Trade Expositions and Missions, the export promotions of DTI.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">\u201cJapan and Philippines have always had a mutually beneficial relationship and this project is a testament to that. These artisans were given an opportunity to enhance their skills and receive new business insights that will no doubt help them to compete in the industry,\u201d said CITEM Executive Director, Clayton Tugonon. \u201cWe\u2019re pleased that they chose Manila FAME to launch their brand as it is a noble effort in line with the event\u2019s goals.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\">\u201cThe projects aims to contribute to the income generation of Sorsogon\u2019s local handicraft people and innovate the province\u2019s craft for the international market.
