The largest colonization mission takes off in Ridley Scott\u2019s latest sci-fi horror-thriller \u201cAlien: Covenant\u201d starring Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, James Franco, Billy Crudup, Jussie Smollett, Amy Seimetz, Carmen Ejogo, Callie Hernandez and Danny McBride.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in \u201cAlien\u201d with \u201cAlien: Covenant\u201d, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with \u201cPrometheus\u201d and connects directly to Scott\u2019s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.<\/span><\/p>\n

In recent interviews, Ridley Scott revealed that in \u201cAlien: Covenant\u201d, he explored into the origins of the xenomorphs, and that the movie touches on mortality, immortality and the higher power who created humans and the universe. \u201cWe did Prometheus \u2013 that heaved it off the ground, and Covenant is a follow-through to Prometheus. We now know who created this, and why, and the next one\u2019s a joining up of the storyline,\u201d says Scott.<\/p>\n

Both Prometheus and Covenant are inspired by Scott\u2019s personal beliefs about where we came from: \u201cWe\u2019re not just a random biological accident, for you and I to be sitting here right now [by accident] would take trillions of correct decisions made randomly by nature, which of course is ridiculous. I think there\u2019s some kind of decision being made. I believe in a higher force \u2013 if we want to call it God, then it\u2019s God.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Scott further revealed in his Vanity Fair interview about the opening scene in \u201cAlien: Covenant\u201d, \u201cWe start Covenant with a really clever prologue that settles\u2014once and for all\u2014who David really is.\u201d The sequence begins on a \u201cbig beautiful blue eye\u2014you see every vein\u201d and over that shot audiences will hear footsteps approach. \u201cHow do you feel?\u201d a voice asks. \u201cAlive,\u201d the owner of the eye responds. Scott explains that the prologue reveals Guy Pearce\u2019s Prometheus character, Peter Weyland, as a younger, 40-year-old man whom the newly-born David calls \u201cfather.\u201d Scott promises this sequence will \u201creally get people going because it\u2019s fucking smart for a change.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
