It\u2019s that time of the year again for the art lovers and curators to snag something they can add to their collection. The annual Asian Cultural Council Philippines Art Auction will be taking place on February 18 at the Leon Gallery, happening alongside Art Fair Philippines 2017. The said auction will also be a fundraising event for the Asian Cultural Council (ACC) Manila, which supports talented artists from various fields.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s event promises to be bigger than last year\u2019s as there will be 209 works which will be auctioned, compared to about 116-120 works from the previous year.<\/p>\n
Jaime Ponce de Leon, director of Leon Gallery, said, in his foreword on the auction\u2019s catalogue, that they are most proud to auction an album containing two of Rizal\u2019s drawings in it. \u201cThis is the first time in living memory that any work of art on paper, signed by our National Hero, is ever offered at auction,\u201d De Leon stated. The sketches were said to be drawn by Rizal in the year 1887, when he was in Germany, finishing his classic novel \u201cNoli Me Tangere\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n They will also be putting 3 pieces by Juan Luna up for sale. This includes a painting entitled La Patria en Peligro <\/em>or The Motherland in Danger <\/em>which was inspired by Victor Hugo\u2019s \u201cLes Miserables\u201d and the French Revolution, in particular.
