  • Face Shields Now Mandatory in Malls and Commercial Establishments
  • To further reduce the risk of exposure to the virus when outside, the government now mandates the public to wear face shields, apart from face masks, not only in public transport vehicles but in commercial establishments like malls and office spaces as well.

In a media briefing last August 21, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that the National Task Force on COVID-19 has decided to require the public to use face shields in public places and commercial establishments.

Dapat sinusuot na rin ang face shields sa mga nakasaradong commercial establishments gaya ng mga malls (Face shields should also be worn in enclosed commercial establishments like malls),” Roque said in an interview with state-run PTV-4.

This follows the announcement made by the task force last month that they highly encourage face shields to be worn in public places along with face masks as protection against COVID-19.

Last August 15, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) firstly announced that “all passengers of any mode of public transportation will be required to wear a face shield aside from the mandatory face mask”. The said directive applies to all public transportation nationwide not limited to the aviation and airports, railways, road, and maritime sectors.

Further, the Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of Labor and Employment with DOTr also required the use of face shields in workplaces in a joint resolution.

However, the government has yet to issue an official order requiring the public to wear face shields outside their homes.
