  • To keep you in the loop on the recent COVID-19 situation in the Philippines, Philippine Primer rounded up the latest updates you need to know:

    Number of cases

    As of 4 p.m. today the Department of Health (DOH) recorded 254 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country, bringing the total number of cases to 8,212.

    DOH also reported 48 new recoveries and 28 new deaths resulting in a total of 1,023 recoveries and 558 mortalities.

    Leyte prepares COVID-19 facility

    The provincial government of Leyte is set to complete the preparation of the province’s very own COVID-19 isolation facility inside the Leyte Academic Center (LAC) gymnasium this week.

    The said isolation facility is funded through the national government’s Bayanihan grant assistance, which is intended for the local government’s COVID-19 response and relief.

    It is said to accommodate at least 100 patients, with separate areas for male and female patients and for suspected and positive patients. A disinfection section and nurse station are also available in the facility.

    According to Leyte Governor Leopoldo Dominico Petilla, the decision to select LAC as the site for the provincial isolation facility was decided because of the center’s huge enclosed space and accessibility.

    Cavite’s Calibrated Quarantine Operations

    Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla announced that the entire province of Cavite will undergo a Calibrated Community Operations starting May 1 to 15, with a strict 24-hour curfew.

    In a Facebook post, Remulla gave the guidelines for the Calibrated Community Operations. Aside from the 24-hour curfew, there will also be enhanced anti-tambay operations wherein residents are not allowed to go out beyond their yard without quarantine pass. Senior citizens are also not allowed outside of their homes.

    Other important guidelines include mandatory use of face masks when going out and flying of kites are not allowed. 

    Philippine Arena now ready for use as COVID-19 facility

    The Philippine Arena Complex in Bocaue, Bulacan is now ready to use as a COVID-19 mega-treatment facility following the completion of its conversion as one of the “We Heal As One Centers” in the country.

    The conversion of the arena was finished on schedule today with the joint effort of the Department of Public Works and Highways, Iglesia ni Cristo, and the MVP Group of Companies.

    According to a report by the Manila Bulletin, the said facility is equipped with 300 beds to accommodate COVID-19 patients and returning OFWs who will undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine. 

    The quarantine facility will also be turned over to medical teams of the Inter-Agency Task Force.
