  • BSP Urges Filipinos to Go Cashless for Transactions During ECQ
  • Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) urges Filipinos to go cashless when transacting during the Enhanced Community Quarantine period.

Experts found that traces of coronavirus can stay on surfaces for certain hours. Thus, this makes the transmission risk of the virus higher knowing that cash is one of the basic items that people commonly touch on a day-to-day basis.

In a previous announcement, BSP clarifies that they are working closely with the Bankers Association of the Philippines and the Chamber of Thrift Banks and Rural Bankers Association of the Philippines to sort out cash requirements during this pandemic.

They opt to provide services by continuing bank operations in some areas, in compliance with the hours of curfew in a particular area. Payment settlements through PhilPass are also performed continuously, according to the BSP. Amidst the pandemic the country is going through right now, BSP still assures that banks are still open to serve clients.

But the BSP strongly advises cashless transactions to avoid the transmission of the virus in the cash and to avoid going to crowded places. Basically, one can use e-banking services provided by almost every bank in the country or online payment services such as Pay Maya, PayPal, GCash, and the like.
