  • To keep you in the loop on the recent COVID-19 situation in the Philippines, Philippine Primer rounded up the latest updates you need to know:

    Latest status

    As of 4 p.m. today, the Department of Health (DOH) reported 90 new cases of COVID-19 in the Philippines. This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 552, exceeding the 500 mark.

    There are also two additional patients who recovered, with 20 total recoveries. These patients are PH130, a 21-year old Filipino female from Davao de Oro and PH187, a 76-year old Filipino female from Quezon City.

    Meanwhile, an additional two deaths were recorded with the total number of mortalities now at 35.

    The said bill seeks to authorize President Rodrigo Duterte to “reprogram, reallocate, and realign any appropriation” the 2020 budget to address the COVID-19 crisis in the country.

    Angkas launches food delivery service

    Angkas launched its new food delivery service called Angkas Food. Similar to other food delivery services, Angkas Food aims not only to help their consumers but also their riders.

    In a statement released through their Facebook page, they will not take any commission from the said service, thus all the delivery fee goes to the riders.

    This service accepts only cash with a minimum delivery fee of Php 600 for 3km and an additional Php 10 per one to five kilometers.

    Pasig City’s Mobile Palengke

    Pasig City launched the “Mobile Palengke (market)” that will offer daily food and supplies such as rice, meat, and vegetables to Pasig residents. 

    According to Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto, this is to lessen the daily number of people in Pasig Mega Market and a parallel effort for food security in the city.

    There will be five Mobile Palengke that will operate around the city. Further details of the Mobile Palengke schedule will be posted on Pasig City Public Information Office’s Facebook page.

    Extreme Enhanced Community Quarantine in QC

    As the number of cases in the city rose to 62, the Quezon City government has placed 12 more barangays under the city’s “extreme enhanced community quarantine”

    According to a report by Rappler, the said barangays are as follows:

    • Tandang Sora
    • Kalusugan
    • Ramon Magsaysay
    • Maharlika
    • San Isidro Labrador
    • Tatalon
    • Damyang Lagi
    • Batasan Hills
    • Masagana
    • Bagong Silangan
    • Pasong Tamo
    • Central

    Under the extreme enhanced community quarantine, “household members of coronavirus patients are not allowed to leave their residences”. As of writing, there are now six mortalities and six recoveries in the city.

    All Starbucks Philippines’ stores temporarily close

    Starbucks Philippines announced on its Facebook page that all of its stores in the country will temporarily close. This includes branches not only in Luzon, which is under enhanced community quarantine but also in its stores in Visayas and Mindanao.

    St. Luke’s Medical Center QC and Global City exceeds maximum hospital capacity

    St. Luke’s Medical Center (SLMC) announced that both SLMC-Quezon City and SLMC-Global City have already exceeded its maximum hospital capacity and are no longer capable of accepting COVID-19 patients for confinement.

    In a statement released via their Facebook page, SLMC stated that there are 48 confirmed cases, 139 persons under investigation (PUIs), and 592 frontline workers in quarantine under their care.

    However, they are still accepting outpatient COVID-19 testing for those who qualify based on DOH’s criteria and their emergency rooms will continue to accommodate outpatient medical services 24/7.
