  • Gosoku-no-Kutsu in Shimoshima , Amakusa
  • Retreat to the peaceful side of Amakusa by venturing to this off-the-beaten-path Japanese ryokan (traditional Japanese inn). Gosoku-no-Kutsu is luxury ryokan located in the Southern area of Amakusa. It offers deluxe accommodations in three unique villas with 15 rooms, each with its own private open-air natural hot spring baths. The name originated from the five influential Japanese poets who came to Amakusa during the Meiji Period.

Built on a forested hillside, the rooms inside the three villas are inspired by certain points of time in Amakusa’s storied past, present, and future. Villa A consists of six rooms with Japanese designs that reflect the Old Amakusa. Villa B has 4 rooms but has the designs of the future of Amakusa.

Villa C is the most luxurious among the three. Located on the upper side of Villa A and B, Villa C is a blend of the European and Japanese culture during the 16th century. Guests in Villa C can fully enjoy their privacy with its own restaurant, patio, bar, and library. The rooms have plenty of space to move around. Guests can enjoy the gorgeous view of the sea, which is very stunning during the day.

The Japanese kaiseki-style dinner is always a feast. It is best enjoyed while wearing a yukata or traditional Japanese casual wear. The menu is customized and all ingredients are sourced locally. Enjoy fresh local cuisines in a traditional and private setting.

Rates for stay are quite steep. It is ¥25,000 per person to stay in Villa A, which includes breakfast and dinner. If you’re willing to go the extra mile, then book a stay at Villa C for ¥44,000 per person, also including breakfast and dinner. Gosoku–no-Kutsu can also arrange transfers to and from the airport.

If you are a traveler who would like to indulge in an exclusive and quiet getaway in a traditional Japanese style, Gosoku is the right place for you.
