Bantayan Island is known for its beaches that remind people of Boracay. White sand beaches coupled with world-class accommodations and a myriad of activities are the island’s claim to fame, even after being hit by Super Typhoon Haiyan in 2013. It’s still Cebu’s best destination if you want the best beaches without fear of being stuck in Cebu City’s legendary traffic.

GETTING TO BANTAYAN ISLAND. It’s pretty straightforward if you want to go to Bantayan Island. Please note that prices may have changed since this graphic was made./IMAGE PHTravelExpress.com

It’s located off the northern tip of Cebu. Take any flight going to Mactan International Airport then take a cab going to the Cebu North Bus Terminal. From there, take a bus (P132 per person for non-aircon, P160 for aircon) that will take you to Hagnaya Port. There’s no need to bring your own food as the two-and-a-half hour journey will have a stopover for you to try out local delicacies.

Once at Hagnaya Port, ride a ferry to Bantayan Island (P170 per person plus P10 terminal fee). You can also opt to take a direct bus to Bantayan Town for P200, though that only removes the inconvenience of having to get on and off the bus to get to the island.

Once on the island, rent a bike and take a trip and explore Ogtong Cave, go island hopping, check out the island’s centuries-old church, and many other things. Fair warning: there are no malls or movie houses on the island. While there is an ATM, it’s best to bring all the money you need once you get to Cebu.
