  • Another masterpiece of various musical periods are set to be staged as Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) celebrates their 45th Anniversary along with the orchestra’s 36th Concert Season starting this November 2018 to April 2019 at the Manila Cathedral and Cultural Center of the Philippines.

    PPO’s 45th Anniversary Concert (November 15, 2018)

    In celebration of their 45th Anniversary, together with the Intramuros Administration, Manila Cathedral and Bureau of Treasury, the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra will showcase an outstanding line-up of international and Filipino soloists including Monique Duphil (piano), Lee-Chin Siow (violin), Ryu Goto (violin/conductor), Joaquin Gutierrez (violin), Herminigildo Ranera (conductor), Hiyas Hila (piano), Tamás Vásáry (piano/conductor), Ray Wang (cello) and Kiyoshi Shomura (guitar).

    The 45th Anniversary Concert special will be conducted by guest violin superstar and conductor, Mr. Ryu Goto—a classical music soloist that plays along with international leading orchestras at some of the world’s most prestigious venues. This will take place at the Manila Cathedral on November 15, 2018.

    Concert IV (December 14, 2018)

    Featuring the compositions of Hans Pfitzner, such as The Christmas Elf Overture, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Violin Concerto, Engelbert Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel Prelude to Act One, Peter Ilich Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker Suite and Christmas Music’s Hymns, Carols, and Songs. Happening at Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theater) on December 14, 2018.

    Concert V (January 18, 2019)

    Featuring Richard Wagner’s Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg Prelude, Robert Schumann’s Piano Concerto, Op. 54, in A minor and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7, Op. 92, in A Major. Happening at Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theater) on January 18, 2019.

    Concert VI (February 8, 2019)

    Featuring Frederic Chopin’s Andante Spianato and Grand Polonaise Brillante Op. 22, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Symphony No. 39, K. 543, in E-flat Major and Zoltan Kodaly’s Variations on a Hungarian Folksong (“The Peacock”). Happening at Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theater) on February 8, 2019.

    Concert VII (March 15, 2019)

    Featuring Toshiro Mayuzumi’s Bacchanale, Robert Schumann’s Cello Concerto, Op. 129, in A minor and Peter Ilich Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5, Op. 64, in E minor. Happening at Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theater) on March 15, 2019.

    Concert VIII (April 12, 2019)

    Featuring Felix Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 4, Op. 90, in A major (“Italian”), Mario Castelnuovo- Tedesco’s Guitar Concerto No.1 and Igor Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring. Happening at Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theater) on April 12, 2019.

    Leading the whole PPO 36th Concert Season is Maestro Yoshikazu Fukumura bringing us the musical periods of baroque, classical, romantic, and the modern era through a rhythm of his baton. He is recognized as one of the most revered maestros in Japan, being the former music director of Tokyo Ballet, Kyoto Municipal Symphony, and Nagoya Philharmonic.
