    24th French Film Festival in the Philippines @ Greenbelt 3 Cinema

    The French Film Festival returns for its 24th edition with a line-up of 15 contemporary French films. The festival continues to expand its audience nationwide with film screenings in Metro Manila, Cebu City, Davao City, and, for the first time ever, in Bacolod City.

    Tickets for each screening are priced at Php 150 which may be purchased at the box office or online. Screenings are free of charge in Cebu, Davao, and Bacolod.

    The schedule and venues are as follows:

    • June 12 to 18, 2019 – Metro Manila (Bonifacio High Street cinemas and Greenbelt 3 cinemas)
    • June 20 to 22, 2019 – Cebu City (Ayala Center Cebu)
    • June 28 to 30, 2019 – Davao City (Abreeza Mall Davao)
    • July 10 to 12, 2019 – Bacolod City (Ayala Capitol Central Mall)

    As it approaches its silver anniversary, the much-awaited film festival will offer audiences an alternative form of cinema and contemporary French films that explore the depths of human relationships and the importance of family.

    And with the festival kicking off on a very important day, the Philippine Independence Day, the festival will pay homage to Filipino cinema on June 12. This includes Mababangong Bangungot (“Perfumed Nightmare”) a film partly filmed in Paris by the National Artist for Film and Mass Communications, Kidlat Tahimik.

    Further, the French Embassy and SPARK! Philippines will organize a special screening of Bande de filles (“Girlhood”). This is in line with France’s commitment to defend women’s rights, A forum exploring the issues faced by young girls in France and the Philippines will also be held on June 14, Saturday.

    French director Nils Tavernier is also coming to Manila to formally open the 24th French Film Festival. His latest film, L’Incroyable histoire du Facteur Cheval (“The Ideal Palace”), will also be screened. The film recounts the true story of an ordinary mailman who devotes 33 years of his life to build a castle for his daughter.

    Other films in the selection include French films released between 2014 and 2018, many of which focus on the relationship between parents and their children, such as De Toutes nos forces (“The Finishers”), Jusqu’à la garde (“Custody”), Dans la brume (“Just a breath away”), and La Villa (“The House by the Sea”).

    Achieving Win-Win Approaches Sustainable Development @ Dusit Thani Manila

    In recent years, a growing number of companies around the world have adopted and implemented sustainability practices and it is time for the Philippines to follow suit.

    The Advocacy Forum titled Achieving Win-Win Approaches Sustainable Development invites local government and business leaders for a conversation on sustainability this June 20, 2019, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Dusit Thani Manila, Makati.

    The event is hosted by the European Innovation, Technology, and Science Center Foundation (EITSC) in partnership with Nordic Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (NordCham) to address what government leaders and business executives can jointly do to achieve inclusive growth.

    Joona Selin, NordCham Executive Director and Henry Schumacher, EITSC President presented the event to the media last May 27.

    Last April, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) launched the sustainability reporting guidelines. In response, the forum is created to make views heard and be part of the dialogue amongst the private sector, government, civil society, and other stakeholders.

    There is also the United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP) 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) to be achieved hopefully by 2030. Six of which will be tackled during the forum namely: No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Good Health and Well-being, Quality Education, Decent Work and Economic Growth, and Reducing Inequalities.

    EITSC Advocacy Forum Achieving Win-Win Approaches in Sustainable Development is scheduled this June 30 at the Dusit Thani Manila, Makati for an admission fee of Php 7,000 for members, Php 7,840 for non-members, with a 10% discount for groups of 3 or more.

    K-pop Girl Group ‘Twice’ Brings “Fancy You World Tour” Live in Manila!

    Korean girl group Twice just recently announced their newest mini-album “Fancy You” and went all out by revealing their tracklist, album release, and world tour!

    Twice is a Korean Girl Group by JYP Entertainment composed of nine members: Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung, and Tzuyu. The group has just recently revealed on their Twitter account that their mini-album titled “Fancy You” will be released on April 22, 2019, at 6 pm. 

    On April 10, 2019, the group revealed the tracklist of their newest album that includes six new songs: Fancy, Stuck in my Head, Girls like us, Hot, Turn it up, and Strawberry. Fancy You is the group’s seventh mini-album following Yes or Yes.

    Metro Manila Pride 2019 @ Marikina Sports Center

    March together with the community at the Metro Manila Pride Parade at Marikina Sports Center this coming June 29, 2019. The event is held every year to bring together the LGBTQIA+ and allies to march for equality.

    June is considered the Pride Month after the Stonewall event in 1969 where members of the gay (LGBT) community demonstrated against the police raid in New York City. Pride Marches are organized in cities around the world this month for acceptance and equality.

    This year, the Metro Manila Pride is happening at the Marikina Sports Center this coming June 29, 2019. The theme for 2019 is to “Resist Together” as a protest against injustice and oppression. More details regarding the schedule of parade and activities will be announced soon.

    The Marikina Sports Center has been the location of the past three Metro Manila Pride. The local government is known to support the cause and the community.

    The Philippines is ranked as one of the most gay-friendly nations in Asia. The country is also the largest Catholic country making the laws very restrictive. The Anti-Discrimination Bill has been blocked from passing since 2000.

    Metro Manila Pride 2017 was titled “Here Together” to create a safe space for everyone to uplift one another, which as followed by 2018’s event “Rise Up Together”. The later was held to educate and find support in the growing community of 25,000 who came.

    The 2018 Metro Manila Pride was crowdfunded called the Pride Fund to cover expenses!

    Stage activities will run throughout the day (til night!) of the day while the parade marches through around Marikina Sports Center and back.

    4th Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival @ Cultural Center of the Philippines

    The 4th Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival will happen next year, July 18-21, 2019 as announced by the Cultural Center of the Philippines. The Festival will be composed of three categories namely Folk Song, Equal Voices, and Mixed Choir.

    The international choral festival is named after the late National Artist for Music and the founder of the Philippine Madrigal Singers, Andrea O. Veneracion. She was a choirmaster, choral arranger, and an adjudicator of various international choral competitions, which helped her pave the way to the development of the Philippines’ choral music.

    Strengthening talents as Filipino pride in the field of arts, two of the top winners of Andrea O. Veneracion International Choir Festival in 2019 will be the face for the festival in the Asia Grand Chorale Prix in Bali, Indonesia which will be held on 2019. Interested participants can download the guidelines and application form here.

    Award will range from US$ 1,000 to US$ 5,000. The jury will be composed of 5 internationally renowned adjudicators from Europe, North America, South America, Africa/Australia, and the Philippines.

    Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream and Macbeth is coming to Manila @ The Theater at Solaire

    Two of Shakespeare’s most known written pieces is set to be staged in Manila for the very first time. Catch A Midsummer Night’s Dream and its tale of delightful comedy and Macbeth‘s brutal life story at The Theater at Solaire this coming September 17, to 22, 2019.

    From the producer’s of Manila’s most-loved shows like Phantom of the Opera, The Sound of Music, Cats, and Wicked, Lunchbox Theatrical Productions is bringing the award-winning Shakespeare’s Rose Theatre Company for their first ever debut in Manila.

    A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a comedy story of four crisscrossed lovers with fairies and magic potions coming in between. The story takes place in Athens and focuses on Hermia and Lysander’s forbidden love story and their plans to elope. Their friend, Helena who was in love with Demetrius had to follow the couple into the woods and the four came across some fairies and their magic potions.

    Meanwhile, Macbeth is the complete opposite, telling a story of a man and his dark, bloody and haunting encounters. Coming from a battle, Macbeth with Banquo had an encounter with three witches who had a prophecy that Macbeth will soon become the King of Scotland. Because of his desire for power, he planned to murder King Duncan and assume the crown.

    GOT7 Keep Spinning 2019 World Tour in Manila @ Mall of Asia Arena

    The wait is over, K-pop fans!

    South Korean boy band group GOT7 has announced their return in Manila for their “Keep Spinning 2019 World Tour” on October 26, 2019, at Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay City. Show starts at 7 p.m.

    The Keep Spinning Tour is the group’s 3rd world tour since their inception and will be their 2nd tour in the Philippines.

    GOT7’s official Twitter page posted the tour dates early this month. The venue was announced not long after, which will be at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

    The group will start the world tour in Seoul this June, then continue to the United States, Hong Kong, UK, and France before coming to Manila this October 26. Local concert producer Pulp Live World and JYP Entertainment have yet to disclose concert details.

    GOT7 band members JB, Mark, Jackson, Jinyoung, Youngjae, BamBam, and Yugyeom debuted in 2014 with the record Got It?, which reached number 2 on the Gaon Album Chart and number 1 on Billboard’s World Albums Chart.

    The band was formed by JYP Entertainment, one of the largest entertainment companies in South Korea.

    Backstreet Boys: DNA Tour

    Calling all the 90s kids!

    Iconic boy band Backstreet Boys will land in Manila for the DNA World Tour this coming October 28, 2019. Details of the venue and ticket details are yet to be announced.

    The American vocal group consists of AJ McLean, Howie Dorough, Nick Carter, Kevin Richardson, and Brian Littrell since their formation in 1993. They are known for their hit songs, “I Want It That Way,” “Everybody,” and “As Long As You Love Me,” among others.

    After launching their latest album, DNA, Backstreet Boys announced their biggest album tour in 18 years, the 2019 DNA World Tour. Starting with Las Vegas, the tour will end in Asia including Manila, Philippines on October 28.

    In a report from the Rolling Stones, the Backstreet Boys “analyzed their individual DNA profiles to see what crucial element each member represents in the group’s DNA.” The album contains music that represents each member and as a group.

    The album is now available online or through record stores nationwide. Details about the tour in Manila are yet to be announced.
