Natsu Matsuri translates to “summer festival” in Japanese. It was first celebrated in honor of the Japanese ancestors. Later on, the festival was held as a way to relieve the people of fatigue from working in the hot summer.
In Japan, during the night of the festival, the grounds will be crowded with people wearing a yukata (traditional Japanese garment) while munching on some tasty okonomiyaki and playing some games.
Natsu Matsuri is organized by Hinomoto, a student arm of the Japanese Studies Program in Ateneo de Manila University.
Mark your calendars now and don’t miss the chance to celebrate a festival the Japanese way!
